This was sent to me by my sister in law. I don’t know the truth of these statements - can anyone point out the falsehoods so she doesn’t spread more BS?
ISRAEL AND JERUSALEM FACTS
ISRAEL BECAME A STATE IN 1312 B.C., TWO MILLENNIA BEFORE ISLAM;
ARAB REFUGEES FROM ISRAEL BEGAN CALLING THEMSELVES “PALESTINIANS” IN 1967, TWO DECADES AFTER (MODERN) ISRAELI STATEHOOD;
AFTER CONQUERING THE LAND IN 1272 B.C., JEWS RULED IT FOR A THOUSAND YEARS AND MAINTAINED A CONTINUOUS PRESENCE THERE FOR 3,300 YEARS;
THE ONLY ARAB RULE FOLLOWING CONQUEST IN 633 B.C. LASTED JUST 22 YEARS;
FOR OVER 3,300 YEARS, JERUSALEM WAS THE JEWISH CAPITAL. IT WAS NEVER THE CAPITAL OF ANY ARAB OR MUSLIM ENTITY. EVEN UNDER JORDANIAN RULE, (EAST) JERUSALEM WAS NOT MADE THE CAPITAL, AND NO ARAB LEADER CAME TO VISIT IT;
JERUSALEM IS MENTIONED OVER 700 TIMES IN THE BIBLE, BUT NOT ONCE IS IT MENTIONED IN THE QUR’AN;
KING DAVID FOUNDED JERUSALEM; MOHAMMED NEVER SET FOOT IN IT;
JEWS PRAY FACING JERUSALEM; MUSLIMS FACE MECCA. IF THEY ARE BETWEEN THE TWO CITIES, MUSLIMS PRAY FACING MECCA, WITH THEIR BACKS TO JERUSALEM;
IN 1948, ARAB LEADERS URGED THEIR PEOPLE TO LEAVE, PROMISING TO CLEANSE THE LAND OF JEWISH PRESENCE. 68% OF THEM FLED WITHOUT EVER SETTING EYES ON AN ISRAELI SOLDIER;
VIRTUALLY THE ENTIRE JEWISH POPULATION OF MUSLIM COUNTRIES HAD TO FLEE AS THE RESULT OF VIOLENCE AND POGROMS;
SOME 630,000 ARABS LEFT ISRAEL IN 1948, WHILE CLOSE TO A MILLION JEWS WERE FORCED TO LEAVE THE MUSLIM COUNTRIES;
IN SPITE OF THE VAST TERRITORIES AT THEIR DISPOSAL, ARAB REFUGESS WERE DELIBERATELY PREVENTED FROM ASSIMILATING INTO THEIR HOST COUNTRIES. OF 100 MILLION REFUGEES FOLLOWING WORLD WAR 2, THEY ARE THE ONLY GROUP TO HAVE NEVER INTEGRATED WITH THEIR CORELIGIONISTS. MOST OF THE JEWISH REFUGEES FROM EUROPE AND ARAB LANDS WERE SETTLED IN ISRAEL, A COUNTRY NO LARGER THAN NEW JERSEY;
THERE ARE 22 MUSLIM COUNTRIES, NOT COUNTING PALESTINE. THERE IS ONLY ONE JEWISH STATE. ARABS STARTED ALL FIVE WARS AGAINST ISRAEL, AND LOST EVERY ONE OF THEM;
FATAH AND HAMAS CONSTITUTIONS STILL CALL FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF ISRAEL. ISRAEL CEDED MOST OF THE WEST BANK AND ALL OF GAZA TO THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, AND EVEN PROVIDED IT WITH ARMS;
DURING THE JORDANIAN OCCUPATION, JEWISH HOLY SITES WERE VANDALIZED AND WERE OFF LIMITS TO JEWS. UNDER ISRAELI RULE, ALL MUSLIM AND CHRISTIAN HOLY SITES ARE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL FAITHS;
OUT OF 175 UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS UP TO 1990, 97 WERE AGAINST ISRAEL; OUT OF 690 GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTIONS, 429 WERE AGAINST ISRAEL;
THE U.N. WAS SILENT WHEN THE JORDANIANS DESTROYED 58 SYNAGOGUES IN THE OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM. IT REMAINED SILENT WHILE JORDAN SYSTEMATICALLY DESECRATED THE ANCIENT JEWISH CEMETERY ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES, AND IT REMAINED SILENT WHEN JORDAN ENFORCED APARTHEID LAWS PREVENTING JEWS FROM ACCESSING THE TEMPLE MOUNT AND WESTERN WALL.
Highly doubtful it was established that early. Doubtful, also, that the kingdoms of Israel (capital Samaria) and Judah (capital Jerusalem) ever were united under a single king. See this thread.Certainly false that there is any continuity or connection between either of those ancient kingdoms and the modern State of Israel – the latter was founded in 1948 as an entirely new state, not a “restoration” of any ancient one.
[
Highly doubtful they ever “conquered” the land in the first place. There is absolutely no archaeological evidence or extrabiblical historical evidence to support the story of the Exodus from Egypt and the Israelite conquest of Canaan. [url=]Finkelstein and Silberman](]Bit more complicated than that.[/url) incline to the view that Israelites were actually indigenous (well, as indigenous as any people can be) to the region, and the story of Exodus was invented at some point as propaganda – in an age when “right of conquest” was considered to confer more legitimate title to territory than anything else. As for “continuous presence,” no doubt some Jews remained in Palestine even after all Jews were officially expelled from it by the Emperor Hadrian after the Bar Kochba rebellion. Just as some Cherokee remained in northwestern Georgia after the Trail of Tears – which does not change the facts that Sequoyah’s Cherokee Republic is dead as a tinned sardine and the Cherokee nation today is centered on Oklahoma.
Completely false. Arabs conquered Palestine in 635 AD and ruled without interruption until the knights of the First Crusade took Jerusalem in 1099. After Crusader Kingdoms were destroyed, Arab rule was restored and lasted until the Ottoman Turks conquered Palestine in 1516.
Except in a spiritual sense, Jerusalem was never a “Jewish capital” after Hadrian expelled all its Jews and renamed the city Aelia Capitolina, until the modern state of Israel was established. It was never the capital of any Islamic state, but under Islamic rule it had some significance as a holy city.
Possibly true; certainly unimportant.
Could be true, assuming David ever existed (and even by the Bible’s account, there was a city there before he conquered it). Mohammed never in his life traveled outside what is now Saudi Arabia, AFAIK.
1-8 are all either flatly false, distorted or irrelevant (the ancient historical claims, in particular, are actually mythological claims masquerading as history). I don’t know enough about the modern history of Israel to critique the rest of the claims but I think the mendacity and obvious malicious bias of the claims which precede it makes me doubt the full honesty of the later claims. I suspect that they’re distortions or oversimplifications if the preceding claims are any guide.
That whole email appears to be rebutted/revered in many sites.
Although I think this kind of spam/propaganda is worthless for either side, here you have a point by point debuking of that particular e-mail. Then again, not sure if they are telling the Truth either.
http://www.un.org/documents/scres.htm is the source. Quite how resolutions 30-32 (“The Indonesian Question”) or 104 (“Question submitted by Guatemala”) can be ‘for’ or ‘against’ Israel is something for the sister-in-law to explain. And FWIW, the Security Council was into the 700s by 1991.
No, it’s not for the SIL to explain. Someone sent it to her, she sent it to me stating that she had not done anything about verifying the claims, which she usually does before she forwards something. I brought it here, because I knew there were people on this site that have much more knowledge on the subject than I do.
OK, fine. The UN Security Council passed resolutions 627-646 during 1989. This proves that the original point about SC resolutions was just plain wrong.
Not counting Palestine, there’s still a helluva lot more than 22. I’d hate to think that the list compiler made the silly mistake of counting the number of mmebers of the Arab League, which is ::gasp:: twenty-two.
