I came across this video clip of a commercial that Israel supposedly airs on Lebanese TV as a propaganda tool. Now I have no knowledge as to weather this is actually true or not. It’s kinda neat, the tune is catchy and the words are amusing, but it could also be a hoax. The blog appears to be from people toward the right of the political spectrum, in any event the two main bloggers are both fellows of the Claremont Institute, which appears to be conservative, maybe even libertarian in it’s leanings judging by it’s “about the institute” page. Does anyone know anything about this video?
BTW, I know this doesn’t really fit as a GD, it’s more of a GQ type question, but I stuck it here because it’s political. I considered the Pit, figuring that the local anti-Semites are gonna want to take a swing at it, but I’m not really pitting anything at all. Truthfully, I didn’t really know where to post this OP, and if a mod needs to move it I’ll understand.
I really doubt it.
The song itself was a kind of semi-hit in Israel during the war. It was distributed via You-Tube, but I heard no mention of the song being used as a propaganda tool.
During the war, Israel did breach Al-Mannar (Hezbollah’s TV) and distributed anti-Hezbollah stuff, but that was in Arabic, not Hebrew.
I assume the blog guys did 1+1, getting 3.
Well, I certainly hope this is not being played on Lebanese TV. That would probably feel like a slap in the face to Lebanese people, whether they’re for or against Hezbollah and Nasrallah. I know I would be insulted, not to mentioned pissed.
What do you mean by this? I don’t want to presume your intent, but are you intimating that those who would decry this video are somehow anti-Semites?
Nope, not at all. There are more than a couple strongly anti-Semitic posters on these boards who can’t resist attacking Israel/Jews/Zionists/whatever in any thread that even mentions Israel. A good example of this is seen in this hilarious pit thread which starts out with an extraordinarily biased OP and then, when several posters quickly demonstrate that the OP was incomplete, biased and misleading, the person who posted it proceeds to vigorously defend their statements and digs themself deeper and deeper into a hole. It’s really quite amusing to read, in a shaking your head “how could anyone be so dense?” kind of way.
Names? Cites? The one thread you linked to (and a Pit thread, at that) to justify this claim seemed to contain mostly reasonable discussion about a specific dispute, even if several of the claims were overstated (and several of those who objected to the OP appeared to be shaky in their understanding of the situation too).
Do you have any better evidence for your claim that we have “more than a couple strongly anti-Semitic posters on these boards”? Do you have any evidence that doesn’t rely on your waffle-language “attacking Israel/Jews/Zionists/whatever” to insinuate that attacking Israel is the same thing as attacking Jews?
