Issue with mouse/computer oddities

Sorry I can’t be more specific in the title. I have an HP laptop with Windows 8; I have the touchpad disabled and I use an external Logitech wireless mouse. Also using Chrome.

I’ve noticed recently (like right now) that I am often unable to hold down the left button and highlight text to be moved or deleted. I’m guessing that this means my mouse is going toes up, but can’t be sure. On a whim, I just clicked the right button, and now the left button is working like it should.

The other issue is that I will sometimes be typing text into a box like this one, when letters will disappear or become sort of fragmented along the bottom. If I click somewhere else in the text, those letters may reappear, or they may reappear somewhere else, or different letters may disappear. It’s very weird, and it doesn’t seem to be a permanent issue, as everything returns to normal after a short while.

Oh, and when this is all going on, other Windows 8 functions seem to be disabled, i.e., I can’t access the bar across the top to close Chrome completely.

Any clues to what may be causing this? Is it Chrome? Windows 8? Gremlins?

Re-enable the touchpad and see if it misbehaves with similar symptoms.

I’m leaning more to an issue with Chrome at this point. I wouldn’t think the mouse would cause a problem with Chrome functionality.

The first symptom is fairly common and usually means it’s time to get a new mouse, but it wouldn’t have anything to do with the other symptoms.

It’s possible you have two problems. I suggest you try a different mouse and see if the first problem goes away. For the second part, I can’t help much; I’m not even sure I understand what you’re saying. There is one forum where letters often don’t go where I put the cursor, but IMHO that’s just crappy software on that forum, since it happens only there, and IIRC it happens whether I use MSIE or Chrome.

In these situations I suspect, in order:

1/ the quality of the memory RAM

2/ the quality of the graphics card

3/ the quality of the OS.

For the last two re-installing a few drivers etc. may help.
