My roommate just came in to tell me this.
The TV is reporting that about ten people, including one woman, have been arrested trying to board planes in New York City.
These people were carrying knives, multiple IDs, and flight certificates from the same school in Florida that the original group of terrorists had graduated from.
The White House is now running searchlights.
Welcome to Round 2.
My roommate saw this report on ABC; they’re calling it an “exclusive”, which might explain why cnn.com and washingtonpost.com haven’t picked it up yet.
I heard planes overhead here, and went out to look up because it has been so weird not hearing jets since Tuesday. It’s dark out, but I saw the lights of two planes, side-by-side. I am assuming that the smaller set of lights was an escort. Then a minute later another jet, then after a minute again, another jet. I have never seen two planes fly so close to each other as that first set of planes I saw. I wonder if anything was going on there?
Peter Jennings just talked about it a little more.
Apparently, there were two seperate groups of five people caught. In the first instance, they were trying to use tickets for a Tuesday morning flight; the flight was cancelled after La Guardia was shut down because of the second impact into the WTC. In the second instance, the five had gone to Kennedy Tuesday morning, but their knives had been noticed by security, so they left, and came back to try again today.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think that the passengers on board would feel such a sense of anger that they would revolt against the hijackers and overwhelm them, tearing them apart in the process and saving the day. I know I would.
Good point. I’m glad the system appears to be working, but I think any hijacker would have their hands full trying to take another passanger aircraft anytime soon. The would have a bunch of angry pax ready to send them to Allah earlier than they planned.
Maybe I’m punch drunk.
I still can’t believe Tuesday happened, much less that they’d try again–and so soon.
It might be A Bad Symptom but there’s some fierce satisfaction mixed in, too.
They tried again–and failed.
No more people died at whatever their target was to be.
And they’re alive, in custody–and kickass proof.
These vicious “martyrs” just laid down the kind of sterling, traceable, documentable trail that civilized nations require before assigning responsibility.
(At least I’m hoping so; the previous “martyrs” weren’t careful about their trail.)
Guess this proves it IS war, folks. They aren’t content with a one-day bloodbath. They’re still here and still trying.
I heard on the news tonight that they expanded the barricade around the white house to encompass a much larger portion of central DC. I think they knew more was probably going to be attempted.
I just don’t get it. Why would any terrorist with a scintilla of common sense try to pull this identical stunt again when all systems are at the highest alert. If this story is verified it’s just idiotic. I don’t want to be culturally insensitive but anyone of presumed or suspected middle eastern origin moving through a US airport is going to be under a microscope. What the hell were they thinking? Now is not the time to try to get out of Dodge.
