I can think of one very good reason for taking these actions at this late stage in the game. And, in fact, whether the terroists were caught or not doesn’t even matter. It’s all in how they have defined their goals. The primary goal may simply have been to keep our airports closed. Further destruction would than have been only a secondary and additional goal.
This might have been a confused report with three men picked up in daytona beach. News reports have not been notable for their accuracy throughout this.
I just heard a report on NBC that the 10 people detained had no connection to the WTC/Pentagon events.
One of them was a pilot (an actual pilot) who had identification from his brother who happened to live at an address in Boston that the terrorists had used.
The remaining nine had stickers on their luggage that made the airport personnel suspicious. It turns out that they were all connected with an event given by the Boeing Corporation (manufacturer of the 757 and 767) to which the stickers related.
Wow, ABC’s “exclusive” really went up in smoke. I’m glad that this was a false alarm, but combined with the various anti-Arab-American incidents happening across the country, it seems particularly ugly that a network seemed to rush to conclusions based on “sources” or “insiders” or whatnot. I didn’t see the news this morning so I don’t know what their retraction looked/sounded like.
What?!?!?!? What?! Do you have a cite? Anything about this? Why haven’t I heard about this? Oh my god. That’s the end. That would really be the end. Nuclear meltdown.
At this point, I am refusing to believe anything that isn’t in the news the day after it was announced. We’ve had buildings crumble and then stand up again. We’ve had people rescued who weren’t who we thought they were. We’ve had hijackers identified, then released.
I feel horrified for all the people who are being suspected just because they were around airports and/or are Arabic. Yes, it’s DEFINITELY better to be safe than sorry, but I just really feel for them. And for all the innocent people in the middle-east who must be really really scared of what we’re going to do next.
Fortunately, you can use your common sense to ignore most of these stupid news reports.
Yeah, some terrorists are going to try to board a plane 2 days after the attack. How stupid do they think we are to believe these stories? “Arab flight manuals?” Oh, they’re sophisticated enough to hijack planes and pilot them, but oops! they forgot the flight manual in the car!
Our media is complete shit and I know it, but even I have been shocked over the past couple of days at their dangerous incompetence. I don’t suppose the story about these people’s innocence is going to be splashed quite as large as the initial story. Great. All we need right now if further fanning of the flames.
Taking advantage of the situation to sell more papers, perhaps? How wrong is that?
My brother told me he read an article mentioning that; I’ll try and find out from him where he saw it. Of course, as others have mentioned, just because it’s an article doesn’t mean it isn’t bullshit, which hopefully this will turn out to be.
Don’t get overly excited. First of all, nuclear power plants are designed to withstand a direct hit by a 747. Secondly, if somehow we did have a meltdown, it isn’t the end of the world - we have already had one - remember Chernobyl?
If you live near a nuclear power plant, you are probably safer than if you work in a landmark building.
Just watching the news here. The “Breaking Story” of the night is that Atlanta, along with other major transportation hubs, was a target, and remains in danger.
The local news link is the “breaking news” at the top of the page at http://www.11alive.com .
No, it’s not over, but dammit, I can’t stop living my life because of it.
I talked to a friend today. She talked to a college classmate of ours who lives in Manhattan, and she repeated his comments to me. He said that the news can’t show it all. That people walk around looking vacant, because they can’t simply turn of the television or close their eyes. That he sees rubble and body parts on the street.
I don’t want it to happen here. Hell, I didn’t want it to happen anywhere. Not Atlanta, not Topeka, not New York, not Kabul. But it did happen. Despite that, I have to live.
I know, I digress. But I needed to ramble a bit again.
Admittedly, Rense is probably not the most authoritative of sources, so it could very well be a hoax; however, it certainly makes sense to me, and I’m inclined to believe it rather than not.
The Great Gazoo, thanks for the info regarding nuclear facilities, that’s certainly good news.
