It couldn't happen today

One song I’ve always liked is The Passenger, released in 1980, by Wall of Voodoo.

‘Can I take that little box that you’re sitting on, sir?’
‘No, that’s alright, miss, I’ll hold it right here
I’ll need it later on when I go up in the air’

<snip>

His hands are white on the box he grips
No one knows but it’s their last trip

Could someone smuggle a bomb aboard an aircraft? I’d say there’s a non-zero chance. But the scenario in Wall of Voodoo’s song, where a guy has a ‘box’ or a suitcase is very unlikely.

Time for take-off, extinguish all cigarettes

Smoking aboard a plane is also unlikely nowadays.

I should have typed the lyrics instead of copying and pasting. I think the line is And no one knows that it’s their last trip.

I’ll check out that song, I know Wall of Voodoo for “Mexican Radio”, a weird song which I like.

Wall of Voodoo are awesome. Both incarnations.

The first song of theirs I heard was their cover of Ring Of Fire. That, The Passenger, and others were on their eponymous EP, which has since been expanded into The Index Masters.

EDIT: Actually, it looks like I linked to the full album in the OP.

.

Smuggle? Probably not. You just take it out of the case before putting it through the X-ray machine, like the fifty other people carrying bombs onto your flight.

I’ve always liked “Lost Weekend.”

I’ve always liked Granma’s House. I don’t care much for the song itself, but I love the joke. :stuck_out_tongue:

A friend collects dirty blues songs from the 20s and 30s - some on wax cylinder. As an example I offer

and yes, the link to the lyrics is broken in case any of you are at work.

Most of this stuff would kill Tipper but it brings nice bucks if you find an original recording.
