Just saw this film. Wow.
It’s a alternate-history film (apparently one of the first) in which Hitler invades England and succeeds. It was made by a couple of teenagers for about the cost of lunch, took seven years to complete, and was greeted with howls of outrage by the press when it was released. The film is black-and-white and grainy and marvellously authentic-looking.
The heroine is played by a doctor’s wife in her first appearance in a movie; she is wonderfully understated and sympathetic, even when she chooses to collaborate. The movie is filled with footage of German troops in familiar English settings, and all the details are authentic; one fo the partners was a militaria buff, and they got in touch with collectors all over England to get the equipement they needed.
Very impressive.
