It Happened Here is an alternate-history film made in 1966 depicting Nazi Germany successfully invading England in WWII.
I saw it in the early-'80s and liked it. I saw it again several years ago, and thought it dragged a bit. I’ll have to watch it again.
The filmmakers were 16 and 19 when they started it, and it took them eight years to complete.
Yeah, that was quite a story of persistence on their part.
I saw the movie and really liked it; one thing I liked was that they showed that the heroine had nothing but bad choices open to her–which felt very true to how it must have been in fascist countries.
The cast is all amateurs, as I recall; but I thought the acting was very competent. I’ll have to buy a copy sometime.
Brownlow and Mollo made one other film, Winstanley, in 1975. It was about Gerald Winstanley, an English religious reformer who started a communal farm in the 17th century.
