I’m not an atheist so I don’t know. Why don’t you enlighten me?
THERE IS NO ATHEIST AGENDA.
feel enlightened?
A little light exercise after work, a nice evening meal, surf YouTube or read for a while, then get to bed at a decent time.
At least, that’s this atheist’s agenda.
This is…actually pretty consistent with what you’ve been posting all along.
You’re consistently assuming that everything that you want, the things you value, all other people want and value too. And you’re also assuming other people’s motives are exactly what you assume they are, without even considering that you might be wrong. What most people learn at sometime by the time they reach adulthood, is that not everybody wants all the same things, and that when you assume, you make and ass out of u and me. Here, I’ll be really helpful so you can learn it now. I’ll use your subsequent posts as examples, OK?
We don’t want to WIN the thread. Winning the thread is not important. And you’re doing it again; you are spouting your viewpoint that all atheists don’t want to be organized. Not true. Some do. Some don’t. Those that do, already ARE, and they don’t need your help, and it’s insulting to assume that because you haven’t noticed it, it doesn’t exist. We are correcting your faulty assumptions, not for your benefit, because you are obviously ignoring it, but for other people who might come in and want to form their own opinions.
Not everybody wants to “promote an agenda.” Some people just want to be left the fuck alone, and are perfectly happy to let other people have their beliefs as well. Live and let live. Repeat after me, not everybody wants the same things as you.
Not everybody wants to treat the world as a courtroom where we argue until we decide that one person is right and one person is wrong. Some people respect other people’s beliefs, and even learn from them. Repeat after me, not everyone wants the same things as you.
It’s been stated many times in many ways that there simply isn’t an atheist agenda/world view. People who aren’t football fans don’t have a favorite team. People who are vegetarians don’t have a favorite meat. People without a religion don’t have a religion. There’s no god to congregate about, discuss, or muse about the afterlife. They literally do everything that you do on a regular day that doesn’t involve god and that’s it. There’s no void.
Who created the universe? Big Bang. Why are we here? We’re just bags of chemicals. What happens to us when we die? Nothing. Pretty clear cut.
Oh. It’s also laughable that starting a business venture from the ground up is going to be less competitive than continuing to practice law after a 30 year career of it.
That’s on my agenda also. What I’m talking about is the atheist hidden agenda, if Simster didn’t have one, he wouldn’t have gotten so irritated.
I’m irritated that YOU cannot read plain english - my ‘agenda’ here (on this message board, and in life in general) is to fight ignorance where possible.
Theres alot of fucking ignorance in your house.
So, its pretty fucking irritating when you - who ‘supposedly’ wants to learn something - continues to ignore everything that is said to them.
THERE IS NO ATHEIST AGENDA.
THERE IS NO HIDDEN ATHEIST AGENDA.
get the fucking point already.
If that’s what atheists have to offer, then it’s pretty close to nothing.
If an ethical person had the “truth,” they would want to share it with others.
You know what - i realized calling you a moron was an insult - to all other morons out there.
You’re the kinda moron that makes other morons feel good about themselves.
I know its useless to repeat this - its been said before -
Individual atheists have plenty to offer and do plenty of good works - we just do it because its the right thing to do.
There is no ‘capital A’ "Atheist’ movement.
‘Atheism’ is not - in and of itself - a philosophy or world view.
Get it straight -
I wonder if pchaos believes in a “gay agenda” as well? I’ve heard that bandied about a lot more than an “atheist agenda”, and it makes about as much sense (i.e. no sense at all) as an “atheist agenda”.
I’m atheist. I have NO agenda hidden or otherwise relevant to my lack of belief in a god or gods.
Why do you keep saying atheists are “offering” something?
Very few atheists proselytise (I would stretch the definition of proselytising a little bit to include an atheist actively trying to dissuade a theist from their beliefs), although I do grant it occasionally happens. I for one would not attempt to “unconvert” a Christian provided they weren’t actively trying to convert me (and if they were I would more than likely just ignore them). You are welcome to believe what you want even if I believe it is utter bullshit. So, given that there is no particularly good reason for an atheist to offer theists anything.
But, but, doesn’t everyone have a “hidden agenda?”
G.K. Chesterton was so clever, “Without God there are no atheists.”
The quote is not only ironic it is also a double entendre.
There is really not that much difference between theists and atheists. As a Christian though, I believe man has a heart and a soul. And the heart requires me to share God with others.
My vote is for Jehovah’s Witness or Mormon; some version of Christianity that doesn’t hold up well under close scrutiny. He claims Catholic because he thinks that the huge subscriber base will lend him some credibility. He says he practices law because he’s under the mistaken impressions that people hold lawyers in high esteem and that he argues well.
He flunked out of law school because he was too lazy to do research and because he was too dumb to understand logical fallacies and other nuances of debating. Based on his arrogance, I’m guessing he came from money, so it’s plausible that his dad’s a lawyer. His dad’s not a criminal lawyer, though; the suicide thread proved that. Estate law or tax law. Based on his tenacity, he’s in sales, but hasn’t chimed in on car threads, and he’s woefully outdated on his video game knowledge, so it ain’t Best Buy. He’s annoying as fuck, socially clueless and impervious to insults…I’ve got it. This guy sells time shares. He’s got a major hard-on for atheists, so I’m guessing he’s being challenged by a superior at work who is dismissive of religion. Since he can’t argue with that person here, he’s taking his impotence out on the SDMB.
pchaos, if ever there was an atheist with an agenda to deprogram a believer and expand his ranks, he’s not aiming for people who have already proven a lack of reasoning skills and a level of gullibility and cognitive dissonance that would shame a pre-schooler. No one, not even the Christians, wants you on their team. For your god’s sake, find a new topic or a new hobby. No one cares about your existential angst.
Goddamn, you’re a fucking moron.
THis has already been addressed - got anything new?
You’ve been called some pretty unflattering things in this thread alone. It’s of some interest to me that you don’t seem to take any of it very personally. Most people, no matter how confident, would stop and examine if the criticism being leveled at them might have some merit. You are not given to such pause.
On the contrary, it seems obvious that the attention you get from this kind of setting feeds into your particular pathology. In fact, attention is all this is about, isn’t it? That’s why you don’t put much effort into having well reasoned argument that you can defend. What you have a need for is to feel like what you say matters. And the stronger and more adamant the response in oppositon, the more relevant you feel.
This must be what it’s like to feel marginalized, IRL.
At this point I have to believe that no human could reasonably be this stupid and unaware and that therefore, pchaos is simply a troll, and as such, deserves to be banned.
Caught you in another lie. Everyone knows a lawyer doesn’t have a soul.
Once again, when you become irritated, I know that I’m hitting a nerve.
Is it true or false that an ethical man would want to share the truth with others?
