Davin?
You’re doing it again - assigning motives that you assume we all have, as one big massive collection of all atheists.
Maybe we’ve tried to share our truth, and get smacked down because the religious people we’re surrounded by think we’re evil and going to hell. Doesn’t take too many times before you give that up, sometimes for your own self-preservation.
Maybe we’re too busy. Lotta stuff to do, you know, being lawyers and all and not having time to work on our own personal philosophies, let alone sharing the word, right?
Or maybe we’re aware that we DON’T have a universal truth, that there is no one truth that everybody’s going to believe in or be happy with. Maybe NOBODY does, and maybe those who think they are sharing The Truth are just obnoxious gits, right?
Is this an admission of trollery?
If you think that truth must be forcefully shared and shouted from the rooftops, you have no understanding of truth.
Factual, Objective Truth, atheism has been around since F. Nietzche and yet they have no agenda, no major organizations, no coherent philosophy. The closest I can find to a coherent philosophy is Secular Humanism that Human Action introduced me to.
pchaos, Do you collect stamps? If not, what is the philosophy you share with other non-collectors of stamps?
“Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby.” Penn Jillette
WHY must there be a philosophy??
I enjoy the world around me as I live each day. I live FOR today, and for the next 40+ years worth of days (if I get to live that long). I don’t need a philosophy to do that. I need to open my eyes and ears, and not much more.
Actually, I think that you could argue that existentialism is a philosophy born of either atheism or at least agnosticism.
Since before, actually. Some accused old Tom Jefferson and the Deists of being atheists in disguise.
So, non-factual. And non-truth.
And Objectivism, and Communism, and Nietzsche’s particular school of thought, as you yourself acknowledged earlier.
C’mon. The least you can do is put 5 seconds on thought and reflection into it before you hit the Submit button.
Explain why we should.
The fact that you expect that this should be so just represents a massive misunderstanding of atheism. But we know this already.
Bye bye, pchaos. Best of luck with your “Law Practice”.
Try being honest with the next person, or people you encounter.
Things will work out better for you then.
pchaos reminds me why I hated philosophy classes. Looking for answers to questions no one is asking.
I think I’m just going to let ignorance win - praise ignorance!
I actually told the professor that I thought philosophy was verbal masturbation. Passed the class. barely.
As far as I know there’s no atheist cookbook either. So what? And since you understand philosophy about as well as the average guppy, your judgment that atheism lacks coherence means nothing.
What? You could get college credit for masturbation?
Goddammit!
My best guesstimates show an attorney who sort of fits the bill, but died about a year ago and a guy with a similar name/info. with no fewer than two actions affecting ability to practice law, one public, one private. Neither really convince me this poster is one of those unless affecting a persona. But, the deceased guy has a history of knowing about certain things like the username has on other boards.
Holy heck, the idea he was an actual lawyer seemed bizarre. I just phoned up the obvious pchaos you find on the net, sadly there was no reply but I did leave a voicemail with a code-word. If that really is you pchaos, and you are not impersonating someone, please repeat it. If it isn’t you I suppose I or others will call the, back over the next few days.
If you really are a lawyer I offer you an unreserved, unconditional apology.
Otto West: Apes don’t read philosophy.
Wanda: Yes they do, Otto. They just don’t understand it. Now let me correct you on a couple of things, OK? Aristotle was not Belgian. The central message of Buddhism is not “Every man for himself.” And the London Underground is not a political movement. Those are all mistakes, Otto. I looked them up.
Oh I made thAt call before I read this, may have been a bit silly then…
I followed an e-mail address based on the set of links - are you saying that one led to a deceased individual? I stopped at a motion that contained said email address - I did not go farther.
holy shit.
