It’s a girl!?

I like classical names with a demunitive. Like Rosalind can also be Rose, Rosa, Rosie, Rox, etc

I also checked the most popular baby names of the year/decade, and didn’t include any of the top 50. Here’s the social security list. Top 10 girls names in 2006 are:
Emily
Emma
Madison
Isabella
Ava
Abigail
Olivia
Hannah
Sophia
Samantha

congrats on the ultasound. Be careful though, last time my wife went for one of those the technician said “here’s your baby right here.” My wife said, “really, this spot feels funny.” “congratulations Mrs. china Wife, you’re having twins.”

Congrats!

Don’t be fooled by that whole tabula rasa thing. Mine has been willful since conception and it sounds like yours might be too.

FWIW, I lost my damn mind when I found out I was having a girl, painted her room pink, invested stock in pink onesies…etc. She’s 21 months old, likes carrying rocks, eating dirt, playing in water and hugging her Momma (and a brush today, go figure) and her favorite stuffed animal is a giant Shrek. She thinks Barbies are for whacking the dog with. The kindest gift you can give your child is letting them be exactly who they are.

Highlights of my day today: My daughter playing with her drum kit, hugging a brush, giving me a kiss goodbye and trying to force feed the dog actual dog food. Trying to climb a book case and running full tilt through the house, waving her arms yelling “AHHHHHHHH!!!” Scrambling up into my lazy boy. (Yes, it’s in front of my computer, isn’t everyones?) and getting me to do “this little piggy.”

I’m so excited for you. BTW, they get a LOT uglier in the 3d sonograms…

Ah, yes…it’s amazing how different and true/not true to stereotype kids can be.

My goddaughter has been in charge since she was a baby. One of my favorite pictures of her is from her christening. She’s in her godfather’s arms, looking straight at the camera, with a look that says “Yes, I am responsible for this event, thankyewverymuch.” I think she was 5 months old or so.

Also, she ran away from home at 2 1/2. She was supposed to go upstairs and decided that she didn’t feel like it. Daddy turned around and she’d gone out the front door and was headed up the street. Kind neighbor intercepted her.

FTR, my niece is adamant about how much she hates pink. I predict a very pink adulthood for her.

Qwghlm is so awesome! I wants my liscense plate to be that next. And I’ve never read the series or heard of it until now.

YAY for a healthy baby!!!

You will receive 1000:1 of pink cute adorable girly outfits 0-3 months to actual equipment that you really need.

Take ALL the dresses but 5 (or whatever number) back, and get what you need.

I had the boy first in my neighborhood when all my neighbors had girls. They got ninety bajillion girl outfits that they could never have the baby wear unless she did wardrobe changed 8 times a day for two years, provided she never changed sizes. They, being EastSiders, had three baby showers each with more people than I’ve ever shook hands with in my life for their babies. I had one and died of embarrassment over the entire matter. There has to be something wrong with me, but I’m ok with it.

I advised both of them to take them back to where ever and get the stuff they needed: like a car seat. But.They.Couldn’t.It.Was.A.Gift. blah blah blah. Guilt driven hormonal wishy washy poo poohing galore. I was preg at the same time and didn’t cave in to that stuff. (YMMV.)

When my daughter was born not so long later I received ALL THOSE DRESSES. We are talking a Metric ASSLOAD OF DRESSES. Like 8 garbage bags loaded with tiny dresses. So, I took all the dresses ( new, with tags and hangers) back to the stores and whatever in store credit I got ( all the outfits were the previous years baby items so they were clearanced out) probably enough for a new bra or three for me. Look, tits need love too. (Having a girl second, I received my own assload of cutesy girly outfits for Spawn #2.) but I didn’t have a second shower tacky, they just showed up in the mail. the way to go.

Now onto More Important Whoo HAAA: Names!
You can go with old and traditional, but I say be daring!

Carmelisha * Qwghlm (Last Name)

I like Qwghlm so much, I just may use it as my Witness Protection Name one day.

*Name of a woman who is on the Do Not Accept Checks from These People at work.

Congratulations! I’d still have a backup name for a boy “just in case” the sonogram interpretation isn’t correct. Here are my name suggestions for a girl: Alice Marie S., Ada Clare S., Ada Rosalind S.? What do you think?

Esther is a lovely, timeless name. I think that’s what’s so great about standard, old-fashioned names. They don’t ever completely go out of style. They’re like the tide–they rise and fall in popularity, but they never really go away. I used an “old” name for my firstborn–her name is Charlotte. My other daughter is Sheila. I named my son Jason. Guess there’s just not much “trendy” about me!

As for those idiot parents–give me a break. That is just stupidity at it’s peak. If they allow this, I can just see how things will end up with that family: “This is my son, 4real–and his baby sister, FoShizzle! And WTF? is due in two months–we’re calling him that because he was such a surprise!”

I don’t have any name suggestions, but will say as the possessor of a nice, not too dull, classic sort of name that is never too popular but never goes away, that I like it. If I were naming a kid I’d do the same thing.

If I wanted to go wilder with a name I’d make it the middle name, so that there’s an option, but middle names don’t come up much unless the namee wants it to.

Seconded! My daughters (3 & 4) are both into the same! And Boglette #1 wants to be a race car driver. Boglette #2 hasn’t voiced a preference yet, but is as rough and tumble as any boy.

But when you consider I work and Bog stays home with them, ‘traditional’ gender roles are already out the window.

Did you have one of those 3-D ultrasounds? They didn’t have them when I was preggo, which was only a few years back. How I wish I could have one of those pics for the scrapbook!

Hey Mouse_Maven, try here…

Celtic Baby Names

Thanks!

Mouse_Spouse is sticking to Heather as a name. He likes it because its a Scottish flower. I’m scared that we’ll agree on a name, I’ll take one look at the kid and change my mind! (Pointless aside: When I was fostering a litter of kittens, there was one who I could not think of a name for. Nothing felt quite “right.” Mouse_Not Yet_Spouse adopted him, named him Astrix, and they’ve been very close ever since. More pointless info: That is my cellphone in the picture. The little orange rascal likes to carry it off!)
