name the baby and win a prize

It is with great solemnity that I announce the impending arrival of our first child on February 11th next year, a day before my birthday. The child had better not show up late or she won’t be getting any cake, now will she?

Current name theories are Rosie May if it’s a girl, and Isaac Christopher if it’s a boy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as several days’ debate over here resulted in my cat getting called Batman, and I’d kinda like to do better this time.

For a boy, Scylla Euty.

For a girl, FaryChat Eve

Maureen for a girl. I just like the sound.

I’ve always liked Megan Elizabeth. Dunno why.

Heidi for a girl

Kohl for a boy

I have always liked the name February for a girl.

Feb. 11th is my mom’s birthday.

Her name was Eunice Geline. She dropped the Eunice when she left home for college. I like the name Geline. It’s original.

Well, February 11th is my husband’s birthday, so you could name him “Mr. Jeannie” if it’s a boy. No? Okay, his actual name is Derek. How’s that?

I’ve always liked these names for boys:

Michael
Sean
Stephen
Max
Samuel
Jake
Jack
Kevin

And for girls, I like:

Elizabeth
Susannah
Julianne
Juliet
Madeline
Carol Ann (my mom’s name)
Lisa
Christine

I know, I know, these are pretty boring. But I’m a big fan of classic, simple names. Don’t know if that list helps, but there you have it. (btw, not that it matters, my lists are in no particular order)

I say be truly original …

Flapjack Glockenspeil the Fourth

[sub]I can’t stay away from this stupid board, even when I’m depressed[/sub]

Magnus or Thor

That’s it!

Good heavens, you have to ask? Cecil if it’s a boy, Cecilia if a girl - and for a middle name…no, wait a minute, I guess Dope wouldn’t be such a good choice. Might scar the little tyke.

That’s kinda good, not least because Harry Hill always insists his Dalek girlfriend was called Jean.
Thor is highly amusing.
Flapjack Glockenspiel the Fourth is, sadly, for a man with stronger nerves and a gentler wife than mine.
February and Elizabeth are sweet, although if it’s going to have “Elizabeth”'s dignity, which is truly beautiful in its patriotism ;), it’d better not be easily shortenable. Shortenable? Shortenable.

I think the top prize remains open so far. I’m thinking fifty billion dollars and a bag of marshmallows.

I say stick with what worked in the past.

You’ve gotta call him Batman.

No, really! How cool would that be in third grade? “What’s your name, little boy?” “I’m Batman.”

What if she’s a girl?

Come to think of it… I realise he/she would hate me for a long time, but eventually, if even one of my genes makes it through, he/she/it will definitely see the cool side. Plus we decided a long time ago that male and female roles were interchangeable (except for when they’re not), so Batman on a girl would ONLY BE COOLER.

May I beg you, as a personal favor to me, no “J” names!! My kid has been in class with countless Jennifers, Jessicas, Jessis, Jareds, Joshes, Jacobs… well, you get my point. I have nothing against any of those names except that everyone in the world seems to use them.

Names not easily shortenable??

Karen
Amy
Sarah
Lois

Roger
Fred
Mark
Eric

I’m not much for trendy names… then again, I’m an old fart.

Oh yeah - congrats!!

That’s it! That’s what I wanted all along. FairyChatMom will now receive a lifetime’s supply of junk mail and a limited edition signed copy of my last passport photo. I no longer look like I did on the SDPeoplePages. She and Jeannie are also now my favourite posters. I may as well start my own list…

I am really not on the fatherhood plane yet. Anybody care to help me out? I really, really love kids, but I’d always intended to pick up a coupla strays. I waited for Chelle outside the antenatal clinic today and it was the most worrying time I can remember. She was fine, of course, but I didn’t deal with it terribly well. How on earth am I going to cope?
And by th’way, keep the names coming. This is great stuff. I really think we’re going to end up with at least a middle name here, and I’ll make sure the kid knows where it came from.

This whole thing is so cool…

Here’s another vote for Elizabeth (my mom’s name), but to be orginal try these one for size.

Boy
Colin
Aremus (pronounced Air-eh-mess)
Wallace
Robert (just because it’s my name, and I can use different names in different situations i.e. Rob/friend Robert/Work shithead/Wife)
Nolan
Batman (gotta go with Manny’s reasoning here)

Girls
Destiny (don’t laugh, I like it)
Jennifer (Jenn, Jenny, or Jennifer the whole multiple name thing again)
Lea
Colleen (a fine scottish name laddie!)

So uh, what do I win?

Ross, you’ll get into the swing of things. I waited with my brother-in-law while my sister was getting her Official Pregnancy Test, and I truly thought he was going to need some kind of medical help himself - the man is Turkish, so lord knows it isn’t easy for him to turn pale, but he was making a good try for it, and he really was only marginally coherent. Now, however, he is a cheerful father of one, and they are even contemplating a second. So, not to worry, you’ll get there.

And congratulations, btw.

My suggestions for names? Well, give us some input here. Are you looking for traditional? Unusual? Exotic? Short? Long? Help us out.

if its a girl…Anashey (pronouced Anna shey)
