It’s healthy!! Woo Hoo!

At five weeks, my daughter was a smear.

At eight weeks, she became some sort of crawling bug.

It was at 20 weeks that she turned into some sort of horrifying alien/sea turtle hybrid. Fortunately, she outgrew that stage.

Badkitty does a happy dance for Mouse_Mom and Mouse_Dad!

I am so excited for you two! Hearing the heartbeat and seeing the mouse_ling is so exciting! I don’t think I had my ultrasound until later on.

Goddess Bless the little one!

Yay for healthy babies!

What delightful news! May every bit of news until September be this good and better.

Congrats MM! Way to go, Baby!

The ultrasound done on my son was a bit further along in the pregnancy. I was looking at the screen when the tech started it, and there was no question: It was a boy.

My wife couldn’t read the blobs very well, but I could. She didn’t want to know if it was a boy or a girl, and I managed to never let her know until she delivered.

That was tough.

Yay! It’s so cool to observe them in their natural habitat! I had two ultrasounds done with the girl child. She’s sucking her thumb in both of them, a habit she didn’t really lose until she was 6 years old. I wanted to know her gender, too, but she wouldn’t cooperate either time. So by the time she was born, I already knew two things about her: she was going to be a thumbsucker, and she was going to be ornery.

And I was right on both counts.

The boy child was more fun, he kept kicking the scanner thingy. And you know, it’s a totally bizarre feeling to compare his ultrasound picture with his driver’s license picture.

Thanks for all the support and congratulations! SDMB rules!

My brother, Chicken*, called me. He wanted to wish me a happy Mardi Gras (we’re both expatriate Louisianians**). Chicken is amazed that his big sister is going to have a baby - even though he has a 10 year old son. When we told him last week, he shook my husband’s hand and said, “Now I know who to contact if I need the impossible done.” :stuck_out_tongue:

*Mouse_Bro’s nick name. Its a long story and I’m sure the version I was given is a lie
**Shameless promotion: ColoDopers, Chicken is a chef in Colorado Springs. If you feel like a culinary adventure, he does a fusion of tex-mex and Louisiana cusine.

It’s amazing isn’t it? We heard the heartbeat of ours a few weeks back. We get the first ultrasound in a few weeks to attempt to find out the sex. I heard the little swishing noise of the heartbeat and my eyes did tear up a little. It’s funny, I was excited but once I heard that I immediately got happier. Hooray for babies!

I was in a goth club a few years back, just hanging out trying to look more depressed than everyone else, when suddenly I heard that Doppler fetal heartbeat sound. Someone (I don’t remember who) used it as a sample in a song. I got teary and excited all at once. Then I remembered to look very, very depressed so I could attract a mate.

My daughter was born Sept 10, 2005. So I can vouch for the quality of babies born on that day. A Plus! Strong Like Bull. Small But Perfect.

The internal thingy does look like a rather boring vibrator. I, too, was expecting the barcode thingy.

One thing my doctor was against, but I was all for, was the heartbeat thingies you can rent for like $25 a month. You usually can’t start hearing them until after 12 weeks, it took me 15 weeks before I started hearing it. His concern was that they aren’t terribly reliable and can send women into panics. I just found it neato to listen to the little tornado inside me. Listening to her moving around. It really does sound like a tornado. The first couple of months you had to move around and position it just right to hear her. My heartbeat would overpower her sounds, then omg, you are just a vessel.

I used to love watching her roll around. I have some pics of her waaaay on the left side, rollllling over to the riiiiighhht side. Hey, you! With the feet! Out of my ribs! Off the bladder little lady! (Did I mention that your body surrenders complete control to this child? Don’t be fooled, it is a traitor to you)

We had a lot of 3D sonograms. At the last one, she looked like something that had been kept in a basement too long. Sort of a mix between a member of Insane Clown Posse and Alien. I recall saying she’d have to get a whole lot cuter before she came home with me, fortunately, she did. My hairly little pointy headed monkey!

Lilbro prefers the 7th, actually, although Abuelita went for the 4th and both Mom and SiL’s-Mom consider the 21st most ideal (which means both of The Nephew’s grandma’s were born the same day!). Let’s also take into account SiL’s Godmother (22) and Lilbro’s Godfather (25).

 Cool on the babynews, Mousie

Fugit, she deserved it. GO MOUSIE, GO MOUSIE!

My seamonkey

Oh! S/he’s still got her little stumpy tail-bits! S/he is a Mouselette! How cute!

I believe I know his work. Quite a talent!

Our one and only u/s was done when I was about 21 weeks pregnant (my midwives don’t do them unless there’s a need to calculate the date or if there’s something wrong), and although we’d already decided to find out the sex, we could tell immediately that Baby B was a boy. There was NO mistaking that thing sticking up when she glided over his private area to check out his spine. So when she said “It’s a boy”, we both said “Yeah, we know”. :D.

Even six months after his birth, we still have his ultrasound pics proudly displayed on the fridge, and the money shot is front and center, although ElzaHub’s about to make me take that one down  .

Congrats, Mouse_Maven!. It only gets better from here. Wait until you see them a little further along and can make out their face. And there’s nothing like hearing the heartbeat. I think I got more teary hearing his heartbeat than I did at the ultrasound.

E.

Aw, looks just like you! :stuck_out_tongue:

Great pics! I can’t wait till I can see my little one.

You know that your name and everything is on them? I dunno if you want everyone to be able to see that info…

:smack: I didn’t notice that. Luckily, my name is common and misspelled on this recording.

Come to think of it: These are pictures of my uterus, so privacy may be moot.

That is great news. Here’s a wish for continued good health for baby and mother!
