It turns out I might be smarter than I thought

In my old school I was in math but I was doing really simple stuff, I mean I was doing alot of adding and subtracting, easy stuff. I did not want to do any other type of math because frankly I didn’t want to work too hard and spend time doing homework.
When I got to my new school this black lady (I only say that because she mentioned being a black woman several times) and guidnace counselor asked me if I was in special education, I said “No” and she said that I might as well be because the classes I were doing weren’t much different.
I had my first week of doing Algebra and I have caught on to it really fast and the teacher was surprised because she knew the kind of classes I was taking before.
I have zero friends right now :frowning: , I talk to people but I don’t really hang out with anyone yet so maybe it’s a good thing  for now because it turns out I might be smarter than I thought when I actually take the time to do my homework.

You might want to look into doing programming. Certainly it is a good way to get started on making a good living. But mostly it’s just fun.

Essentially it’s like interactive algebra, where you have a bunch of variables that can be anything (like a space ship and its bullets) and you use various math and commands to change the variables about to create something people can use (or just play with.)

Good for you. I guess that answers the question about how the quest for non-dumbass friends is going. How are you handling things with that?

START when I was your age I was a lot smarter than I gave myself credit for.

When I was younger than that I assumed I was dumber than average.

It’s amazing what a difference paying attention and doing the work makes, isn’t it?

Nice going, mate!

Please keep up the good work, START. There’s nothing more frustrating that watching a capable person behave as if they aren’t. I’m glad someone is challenging you and giving you the education you deserve.

Practice being a hard worker now so that it won’t be such a shock on your system when you’re older. I know you can do it!

That’s great! If you challenge yourself to do your best now, you’ll have a lot more options later on and probably end up a lot happier because of it. It sounds like you’re on the right track.

Never thought you were not smart, START. You hold your own on the SDMB.

Have fun with your new school, including your studies!
