HOLLYWOOD — The Phoenix, a 100-foot glass-bottomed paddleboat said to have been used in the 1966 Doris Day film “The Glass Bottom Boat,” sank off the coast of Malibu early Sunday morning, authorities said. The 77-year-old boat was a tourist attraction for decades until it was retired several years ago to Newport Beach, south of Los Angeles. The Coast Guard received a distress call about 8 a.m. with word that the boat’s pump could not keep up with the leak. The Phoenix filled with water as the crew scrambled to safety, and it sank in about 600 feet of water, two miles off Zuma Beach, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Edward Osorio.
It was sad when that Glass Bottom Boat went down,
It was sad when that Glass Bottom Boat went down,
There were Arthur Godfrey and Miss Day,
And Paul Lynde, who’s really gay,
It was sad when that Glass Bottom Boat went down.

I’m just glad that Vladimir the Sheep Dog wasn’t on board.

Hey! I just saw The Phoenix in Newport Harbor the other day! What the hell was it doing off Zuma?
The view hasn’t really changed though. It’s just closer.
