It Was Twenty Years Ago Today

… that I registered at this board. That’s crazy. I’ve literally spent 37% of my life registered here.

Not a Sgt. Peppers thread?

Congrats on 20 years.

It’s been just over twenty years and one month and three days for me; I noticed with the migration, that my post count is slightly lower than from the old Board. C’est la vie.

This means 46.5% of my life has been spent with my distal phalanges perambulating on the keyboard 'round these parts.

Why such a low count for 20 years? It’s about quality in each post, not quantity.

MPSIMS: may dad’s bday was May 25. He was 61 in 2000…

(PS. That was Tripler’s join date)

Congrats! How’s Bob doing?

Yeah, we need some quality Bobs around here!

Tripler
Band name!

Bob’s awesome. He recently graduated to full off-line/off-leash privileges in the yard and monitored off-leash in public parks (where it’s allowed). Most of my photos are still on my phone - I never post on SDMB from there. Here’s an oldie but a goodie.

There’s my boy!!

Oh, I hate perspectives like this. My 20 year anniversary (not including AOL) will be November. I don’t remember if it’s before or after my birthday, which given the size of the denominator doesn’t change the percentage much: 41%.

I’d like my money back please. :joy: :joy: :joy:

Gotta find my actual Incept Date. My old posts used to identify me as October 1999. Haven’t figured out how to find that under the new regime.

But hey, Congrats on 20 years !!!

We here at TripCo looked back at your payment records, and have only found two installments; the first dated from 6/12/2002 for $1.12, and the second was on 10/3/2006 for a paperclip, some pocket lint, and a moldy orange rind.

How may we return your mummified orange rind?

Tripler
We will use the $1.12 for postage.

Keep the rind. It adds zest to the Straight Dope.
I need the paper clip back. So I can insert it into my Mac Mini and do a CMOS Reset and get back to the old AOL boards.

I keed, I keed.

I has now been 73 years since Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.

My 20th anniversary (not counting AOL) will be on my birthday this year. Also my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. So it’ll be a “four-fer.”

Over 20 years of this place being therapy for me.

I was lurking for ages before I registered, and back then our big company had ONE computer with internet access. (On its own floor… all that was there was a table, chair, computer and lots of cables. Surreal…)

So I’d get into work an hour early, fire up the big beige box, listen to the no-baud modem buzz and whine, and hopefully connect to The Dope. This whole process took fifteen minutes, so I was running up and down stairs, starting the coffeemaker and turning on lights.

But soon there’d be people walking into work and fighting over that one computer, so I had to work fast, print out a couple of threads and log out. Come lunchtime, I’d luxuriate under a tree out back and read up on Mailbag replies (I think that became Staff Reports), and newer forums like Cafe Something… The company was pretty toxic, so that really was therapy.

Just today I went and found my first thread: January 2007. 13 1/2 years on this board, a bit over 1/3 of my life spent here. Some people have been here for only a fraction of my time and yet their post count is orders of magnitude higher than mine, but I like to think that I value quality over quantity. This place truly is therapeutic.

I’ve been a Doper for approximately 32.4% of my life.

As of today.

Funny. For me, it says October 20, 1999.

Must be a time zone thing.

We were pretty toxic ourselves twenty years ago.

But in a GOOD way.
