Italy & Online Transactions

Now, I’d like to buy now and then from Italy, I really would. Doing some online buying but two things seem to stand out:

1 - a tonne of sellers will not deal with buyers in Italy (where I’m not btw - so no skin off my). No other 1st world country registers similarly.

1 (b) - although a lot of sellers in Singapore & Hong Kong will not sell domestically. Any ideas why not?

2 - Sellers in Italy generally use a buy-it-now price, or a start price that is way, way higher than elsewhere. For instance, I’m building a vintage watch array & from Italy the general starting price is c. $250. It is only Italy that does this. What?

Now there’s a notoriety to Italian ahem ‘administration’ that gives me clues to (1), but (2), I can only guess? Love some input to (1)(b) as well, you lovely people.

Singaporeans won’t sell domestically? Strange. Could you point me to an example? I’ve never come across such a listing on ebay before.

Several, here’s 1:

A while since I bought, but you can see all the buyers are foreign to Singers.

Not sure about the Singapore and Hong Kong thing, but sellers don’t want to sell to Italy because the postal system is unreliable. And under Paypal rules, if something gets lost in the mail, it’s the seller’s liability.

Thanks gatorslap. As to why Italian sellers price higher, the reason is probably not interesting.

But Singapore & Hong Kong, not selling domestically, now that is curious?

For a Hong Kong example look at this page: Hong Kong ORDERS page

I sent two identical parcels six weeks ago, one to the UK, one to my girlfriend in Italy. The UK one got there in five days. My girlfriend’s never arrived.

I don’t understand the prohibition on Singapore myself, and I’m a local.

The list of countries seems rather arbitrary to me as well - and why only free shipping to the US? Strange.
