Iteration of the Universe

What iteration of the universe are we in ?

Assuming it’s correct that the universe is in a cycle of creation and destruction - which is by no means certain - it would be impossible to tell.

But if you must have an answer, I’ll say UniVerse 3.2b.

If we’re not still in beta, somebody needs an ass-whuppin’.

Are you kidding? This is clearly an alpha version. Why, Earth.dll v. 1.0 alone is highly corrupt.

Actually, this is the sixth iteration of the Matrix, which you would’ve known if you’d paid closer attention during Colonel Sanders’ monologue.

Panzerfaust, I did pay attention to “Sigmound Fraud’s”, not KFC’s dialog.

It was Colonel Sanders. It was a joke, see. He was the heart of the system, or the KERNEL. I watched the movie at a LAN party with a bunch of geeks, we laughed for a good five minutes over that one.

If it was Colonel Sanders, perhaps the secret of The Matrix is merely a blend of seven herbs and spices…

Since all information is lost during any putative big crunch cycles, I’ll have to bet on 42.

I don’t know which version, but I think it’s safe to assume that it’s a Microsoft product.

I always have to fight the urge to repond to questions such as this with the answer “12.”

Obviously, I lost the fight today.

The most probable value is 1.

You can undoubtedly prove this mathematically using Bayesian analysis (since it appears you can prove anything using Bayesian analysis), but it’s also fairly intuitive since we have no idea how many universes there could possibly be, and have experience of no more than 1 universe, and no reason for supposing we live in a later universe rather than an earlier universe. We can reasonably suppose that 1 universe exists, and although more may exist we are not certain of that fact. If one universe exists, we have to be living in the 1st iteration. If two exist, then we have a 50% chance of living in the 1st. Even if an infinite number exist, we have an equal chance of being in any given universe. Therefore, at worst, 1 is as likely as any other outcome. Ergo 1 is the most probable.

Unless the answer is 0.

There is a theory that, if anyone ever figures out the Universe, the whole thing will disappear and be instantly replaced with something even more befuddling.

There is another theory that this has already happened.

But on a more serious note, it’s almost certain that our Universe will not crunch. At least, it’s not going to happen without some mojo big cosmic changes that we haven’t a clue of. And while we can’t rule such things out, it’s best not to count on them.

Given that our Universe isn’t going to crunch, it’s unreasonable to assume that it’s at the end of a line of universes which did crunch. And even if you do have a crunching universe, it’s not at all clear that the end singularity can turn back into another Big Bang: Most indications are, in fact, that it can’t.

I always thought we were on Earth Double Prime. The one that the Flash didn’t actually visit, but otherwise looks like the one he did.

Wasn’t the Earth demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass, until some four-dimensional mice commissioned a duplicate to be built? Or something.

Can’t you tell by counting the rings?

Isn’t anyone crediting Douglas Adams (RIP) today?

Yea, you - Chronos and Q.E.D!

And Zenster.
