It's 70 friggin degrees on Jan 3rd!

I’ll make sure to pat you all on the back when I finish brushing the huge piles of snow off of my car. grumble

At 65 degrees, it was a balmy strawberry spring day in upstate NY yesterday, which contrary to Michael Moore’s assertion, is perfectly normal, especially because it only lasted a day. Today there is snow on the ground again.

Personally, I love those little tastes of spring in the dead of winter. The air smells like thawing earth, an olfactory experience of which I never tire. I could wear a jacket, unbuttoned, and forego the gloves and hat. It was great. I’m really looking forward to spring now!

I saw on The Weather Network that it will probably drop to minus sixteen late next week, and -24 low next Sunday. Looks like we won’t see warm again for awhile!

Some wasps were swarming around our deck today. That points to one of the disadvantages to a warm winter. More insects will survive through winter and make our lives misable next summer.

They will also make our lives miserable. :o

<Snore> It’s 35 degrees C every day in Brunei.

It’s about, what? Eighty something? In Houston today. We were quit warm this afternoon as I was lying on the couch in the living room, windows open.

And it was 75 today. VunderBob and VunderHund went to Kitty Hawk today, and I even got a bit of a sunburn. We climbed the monument hill, and it was a hell of a hike for fat dog and fat dad.

I won’t gloat too much more. The front comes through tomorrow, and we’ll be lucky to break freezing for the rest of the week.

Cold weather is on its way to the East Coast. Today in SE Missouri temperature has dropped 25 degrees from 3 pm to 8 pm.

Here in Kentucky, the Dogwood trees are actually budding. It’s been that warm for that long. All the buds will probably be destroyed in the next frost, and we won’t have any in spring.

Stepping outside my lovely, little cave, here at 4 AM it’s -15
degrees. (Not sure what in Wind Chill) 'Sposed to get up to a
balmy -4 at best.

This is a rude change for a poor little Surfer boy from S. Cal.

Its supposedly 6C outside. In the office (with air con that finally works!) it feels like it as well. My toes are like little blocks of ice. :frowning:

I’m contemplating gloves in the office…

It was mid 70’sF Saturday and Sunday. I sat out at the pool both afternoons. It’s 72 right now and rainy. I got a feeling the temp is gonna drop slowly the rest of the day. This happens all the time here in southwest Georgia.

Yeah, noted meteorologist Michael Moore.

Folks, we have diaries and histories going back thousands of years noting freak weather occurrances like this. This isn’t a new or noteworthy thing, except to muse about like old timers in front of the country store.

To which I’d like to add:

Mighty warm today. Took the twins for a walk in their shirtsleeves.

Naked on the deck yesterday (Sunday) - I think the high was in the low 70s.

By midweek it is supposed to be more seasonable (high in the 30s).

Given my deep, undying hatred of winter this is particularly difficult for me. I’ve been eyeing travel websites and resort brochures, though.

I live near Boise, Idaho. We had a low of 3° F this morning, and there’s snow on the ground. Just when I thought global warming was taking its toll and we’d never see winter-like weather around here again, I’m glad to see that the seasons still seem to be in check after all.

That’s what I’m thinking, too. The last two weeks have been really mild, but it’s supposed to get cold tonight. We might get snow on Friday.
I can’t help but think we’re gonna get slammed in February or March with one of those huge storms that swirls up from the south and dumps two or three feet of snow and sends everyone into a frenzy.
