You can also check out Mile High Comics online. They are having a sale, including any of LEG they have in stock right now. I just ordered the second half of the first series.

No the first.
The review writer didn’t seem to understand Quartermains position in the league, seems to think that Mina (in the comic books) is a vampire (which I was under the impression that she was very clearly not), and other things in the review make me wonder if I misread the books.
Hmmm. The Salon review refers to Quatermain as a “…broken-down old opium addict…”, which is true enough. And there was quite a thread going here on the SDMB on whether Mina had any vampiric powers (though Moore has said that she doesn’t), which indicates that the comic is at least (unintentionally?) ambivalent…
Maybe we should both re-read the first series (any excuse will do )
I enjoyed it, altho it was hardly a spot on match for the comic version- (which is so dark, that it turned me off). You’d have to be completely crazy to think they were really going to make THAT into a film, other than something like “Caligula”.
Here is what I think- if the source is good, then you expect the movie to be great also. Usually not. However, when the source is insipid (A theme park ride forgodssake?!?) you don’t expect much- and so you are pleasantly suprised by a decent film. I found PotC about as good as LXG, but in different ways. However, yes, you’d expect more from LXG, and you didn’t get it.
We are fortunate that LotR was as good as it was, as the source was amoung the best.
