It's a boy!

Or at least it will be when he arrives by C-Section on October 28th!

Today was a fun day in the radiology department as they turned me into the human pretzel trying to get him into better photographing positions.

They even sent us home with an ultrasound photo of the scrotum and penis  (I didn’t realize this until we were peeking at the pictures they put in the little envelope for us on the drive home)

So anyone know any good boy names?

Congrats! My son was born 10 months ago. They grow fast. He’s been walking for over a month now and everything round is a ball to him(sorry for the hijak).

Names are hard to decide on. I wanted something traditionally Indian(India not native american). My wife refused. We went with Ethan Gabriel.
You have a few months to decide still so good luck. I’d recommend choosing something meaningful. Whatever that means eh? It’ll come to you I believe.

Congrats!

Townes. Or Elijah. I like 'em both. Of course, whatever you decide…

PS- Hi. You don’t know me but I’ve been quietly following your pregnancy saga and wishing you good luck. My name is Anna, nice to meet you.

[standard tip I give to all new parents]

Find someplace, a special place, that you can take your son to each year on his birthday, and take a photograph. Keep them in a special photo album. I guarantee that, each year when you add another photo, you’re heart will give a little happy/sad twinge as you remember him as a little kid compared to how much he’s grown.

[/standard tip]

We’ve been trying to explain to our 2 year old daughter what will be arriving in a few months but she’s just not getting it! Bringing home the new baby will be an experience as I am sure she will be a bit jealous.

We’ve decided not to use any family names as everyone seems to be a Bill, Fred or Bob. (not that these are evil names or anything but they don’t really feel right to us)

I hear ya on the ball thing Govindah… wait until you find him walking across the kitchen table… or putting his sit n spin on the coffee table so he can spin and watch sesame street better  (yup these things have happened in my house)

Nice to meet you too presidebt… pregnancy with me sure is a saga… two’s the limit for us though. Thanks for the luck  I’m sure to inflict more baby stories on everyone as I encounter new stages with munckins.

Rhysdad … I’m under a lot of picture pressure. Cara’s got a scrapbook with all kinds of pictures and stuff in it and she’s dominating our web page. We can’t slight the new baby in the least so buying the digital camera was one of our better investments! Our daughter is only 2 and we already feel those twinges sometimes, especially when she masters something and we realize she doesn’t need us quite as much!

Whoo-hoo!!

I’ve got two boys. SO fun.

The best thing is, when it comes time for the “birds and bees” talk, Dad has to do it…

My boys are Connor and Trevor, and they are almost 6 & 8. Surf the web for names.

Best of luck. I had 2 C-sections – it’s not that bad (well, hell, I’m lying, it IS – but consider the alternative).

Get ready for soccer/T-ball/basketball !!!

No clue for names, but another bit of advice similar to Rysdad…my nephew was born last September, and my sister takes a picture of him every month on the 4th (he was born on the 4th) laying beside his Raggedy Andy doll. It was the same size as he was when he was born, and now he cradles it in his arm! His name is Zachary Leon, by the way…family names, not exactly my favorite!

Oh yes, and I also secretly follow your pregnancy. Hi, I’m lovelyluka, and I’m a tanookiewatcher.

Upon preview, I realize how creepy that sounds. Surely you understand what I mean.

Name him something piratical!

Yeah for boys.

One minute they are laying there naked looking so cute and their little tallywackers rise up and christen you, the carpet and the dog.

The next, they are standing next to your bed at some ungodly hour, grinning. " :::breathing morning breath directly into your
face:;* Smell-o-Gram*

Our two (boy/girl) are twenty months apart. He didn’t seem to grasp what was going on when we discussed the baby in my tummy or the little human I brought home from the hospital, but I did two things for him/them. I wrote a book for him about little sisters and how sometimes they cried, or were. Two, at the hospital, I gave to him (from her) a stuffed animal. It was a year later that he said, " Teagan gave this to me." . I didn’t think he remember, but Ernie is his favorite.

Aaah yes Shirley … the wonder of little boys. I’ll have to dust off my reflexes from changing my baby brother (He was born when I was 9 so I got a lot of diaper duty) I always had a cloth to put over him so I wouldn’t get sprayed. My father was always stupid and he’d often get it in the mouth! (Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy)

Piratical Arrr? How about Guybrush Threepwood?

We’re considering Zachary, lovelyluka, I’ve always liked the name and it sounds decent with our last name (a decidedly difficult name to spell/say) I never realized I had such a fan club  Welcome aboard … for a SASE I will send autographed pictures of my burgeoning girth… (now THAT would be creepy

Blonde, the first Csection was not as bad as I thought it would be… and this time I don’t have to do 24 hours of labor first so that’s a big plus! And yup the alternative would have been unacceptable.

Oh Tanookie! Congratulations! Boys are wonderful! I am so happy for you. glad he is a healthy little critter too. Doesn’t matter what you name him he’ll be loved. Keep us posted on his naming and progress.

My baby boy turns 16 on the 23rd…(sigh) seems like only yesterday I was toting home ultasound photos of his little bitty pecker all smitten with the miracle of life. Enjoy!

Congrats tanookie!

As for names, Zachary sounds great (it is popular right now, but who am I to worry about that with a son named Jake?) - my basic rules for guy names are:

  1. Needs to have a formal name and a cool, unambiguous (i.e., not teasable) nickname - one for everyday and one for picking up awards, right?

  2. Must be decidedly male - names like Jordan, Taylor, etc. are all cool, but I prefer names that haven’t crossed over to be acceptable girl names…YMMV

  3. Not too yuppie/sophisticated - names like Logan, Hunter and others are definitely neat sounding, but a bit too fancy for my tastes - YMMV. Zachary is fancy (for awards, mind you) but Zach is informal and a great Guy name.

Beyond that - I am sure you will decide on something cool…

Hrm. Zachary… Never heard of a pirate named Zachary, but one of the coolest guys I know is named Zach, so I’ll have to give that one a thumbs-up! (It’d be two, but, y’know, with the hook and all…)

Congratulations! I love the name Zachary - it always makes me think of that book, Goodnight Mr Tom.

I must admit, when I saw this thread title, I thought you’d given birth already…

I love names that you can shorten; Name him William, call him Bill etc.

And I’m very fond of the name Zachary (It’s my husband’s name) but he spells it Zachry and it gets shortened to Zach.

Yay! Boys are great. I wouldn’t take anything for my boys. They are SO different than raising girls.

My son’s middle name is Braden. I also like Tristan. I like names that won’t be something every other kid in class has but not so strange as to have him beat up or made fun of on a regular basis.

Congrats!!!

Wow, I never thought that my offhand comment would actually be considered  My big reservation with the name is that it’s becoming wildly popular - this is coming from a Sarah born in the early 80’s, when approximately every other baby girl was named Sarah/Sara. My mother was disappointed when my sister said she was going to name him Zachary…apparently my mother cannot write a “Z” in cursive, and that would have been a dealbreaker for her.

I also thought that maybe babytanookie had made his way into the world, Loneraven. But now we know the due date, which is an essential fact to know for us tanookiewatchers

What about Tanookie for his name? Just call him Tan or Nook for short. Or give him a cool name for a little boy that he can change when he is older, like Razor. Or give him a place(s) name like Methuen Lawrence. (My friend’s middle and last name is Groton Townsend, she wanted us to “borrow” the townline sign.)

YMMV of course.

-PS I am Keith, father of a 8 month old boy, and I too, am a tanookie-gestation-watcher. (I love babies, but ask me again in 13 or so years.)

Everyone in the family insists time is simply flying for them… for me it is crawling… At this point I figure the baby is never coming out!

I’m thrilled no one has mentioned the old Zack the lego Maniac commercials… this means the poor kid won’t get teased with that in school.

Wordman, according to your rules we’ve failed miserably with our daughter. She’s named Cara. That’s it no formal/familair … all Cara all the time

I also want to make sure whatever I pick that the nickname is more or less obvious from the formal name. Rogue teachers always tried to call me katie for some reason. They’d get pretty upset when I wouldn’t answer but I have never gone by the name katie so I didn’t know they wanted me  (I’m a kathy not a katie!)

kjckjc we’re happy being parents now too … but I’m not so sure what we will think once puberty hits. One really good thing about the new baby being a boy is that if they said it would be a girl my hubby planned to make an apartment in the basement where he could hide from ages 12-when they move out!

What wonderful news, tanookie. It’s good to hear about new life in the middle of others being lost. On my way to mourn my friend I asked my neighbors to let me kiss their tiny little girl on the cheek. Instead, they let me hold her in my arms. It felt so good to know another child was starting in this world as my friend left it.

Something tells me your two will have a really good Mommy. Best wishes to you and your (burgeoning) family.
