I live in a neighborhood with plenty of trees etc and many of the typical critters, bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks and various birds including hawks. I am assuming many of these have their homes and nests or roost nearby.
Couple of nights ago neighbors throw a birthday party into the night. I am wondering how wild animals who must live in the area react to an unpredictable, noisy, but ultimately harmless occasion such as this. Do they vacate to somewhere quieter? Just put up with it? Does anyone know?
Depends on the animal. Birds avoid flying at night to avoid collisions with trees and utility poles and lines so they’ll hunker down in their nests, hopefully ruing their own habit of making incessant noises at the crack of dawn. The critters that do go out at night usually avoid noisy humans outdoors anyway and will hunker down and wait for things to quiet down. Vacating the area will be their last choice unless if they are not predators. Animals find or construct their homes and consistently follow feeding routes to avoid predators and striking out into new territory will be stressful. So staying put will be the most common result.
