It's a trivia contest! Except bass-ackwards, and with no prizes!

Here is a list of ten answers.

I want you to come up with ten trivia questions for which these are the correct answers.

Ideally, questions should have only one correct answer – the one given on the list, naturally – and could perhaps be guessable given a few minutes’ consideration but are far from obvious.

In other words, I’m baldly copying the concept for Jeopardy!.

I’ll post a list of the best questions (IMHO) in a few days (or when the thread seems to be dying down). Winners get bragging rights.

(Thanks to the Seattle SDMB pub trivia team for inspiring this with one of our weekly time-passing rituals.)

The Answers:

  1. cardamom
  2. backgammon
  3. Blaze Starr
  4. United Arab Emirates
  5. Philips
  6. the Automat
  7. iceberg
  8. the apostrophe
  9. Match Game PM
  10. Elizabeth

Ready…steady…go, cats, go!

Well, the last three are easy!

8.) what punctutation mark do idiots (and by idiots, I mean many, many people) not know how to use properly?

9.) what kept Charles Nelson Reilly employed well past his ‘prime’ (if ever that existed)

10.) what is my brother’s daughter’s first name?

What spice do you get if your mother has to show I.D.?

What game has large spikes that must be nimbly navigated?

Which burlesque artist might be found by a bonfire in the Pleiades?

Which country is united, other than America?

Whose head is cross shaped?

What was the first major restaurant chain?

Which lettuce really caused problems aboard the Titanic?

Wha’ts wrong with this sentence?

What. am I talking about?

What real life character has been played by two different actresses, in two different movies, where one actress was nominated for Best Actress and the other for Best Supporting Actress?

FWIW, I think whoever posts the answers for the first 10 should be allowed to post the next 10 answers.

Keeps the game interesting, dontchaknow.

I considered something like that – although I would’ve just done one answer at a time – but decided to indulge my inner control freak and set myself up as judge of all that’s right and good.

Also, that wouldn’t give me the opportunity to tell Ilsa that the United Kingdom would be an equally valid answer to #4, so no dice. Just for an example.

Note also: I’m not expecting everyone to come up with 10 questions in one fell swoop. It’s a question-by-question exercise.

cough United Kingdom cough

Damn, Interrobang, I’m too slow

  1. What are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujeira, Ras al-Khaima, Sharjah, and Umm al-Qiwain? (spellings may vary, but those are the ones I remember from the postage stamps they’ve issued as a means of siphoning money from the pockets of young philatelists)

  2. By what name were outlets of the Horn & Hardart restaurant chain popularly known?

  1. To which country does Garfield mail Nermal?

  2. Who wants to make things better?

  3. I’m Henry VIII I am. What is my mother’s name?

I’ve only got one question, but it’s a doozy…
4. What country has the longest name which is spelled with alternating vowels and consonants?

I liked the Garfield one, but this sets the bar even higher. Nice.

So far so good. (Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I’m not using these questions for anything but the entertainment value. I’m not trying to get the Dope to do work for me.)
