I’ve been having dentistry done all summer, to fix the ravages of decades of poverty and no dental plan. My teeth were in bad shape.
All the bad ones have been removed. All that’s left is repairing the ones that are left, and getting bridges (the real expensive part) to put teeth where there are none.
Today, I had three teeth on the bottom front drilled down to posts, all the decay removed, and had temporary crowns fitted on them. And now that the Lidocaine has worn off, I can actually pronounce ‘s’, ‘f’ and ‘th’ sounds as normally as anyone. I’m practically bouncing up and down. I am a radio announcer, and my teeth were impairing my speech. It took lots of retakes and editing to disguise this fact. Well, not any more!
I can’t believe how much better it is. Maybe it’s a small thing, but it’s a significant one. October 3rd, I go back and get real crowns. This has all been very expensive, but totally worth it.
I’m surprised you where able to do it all that cheaply. My FIL just spent $30,000 on his teeth and they weren’t obviously bad. A single root canal and rebuild on one of my front teeth cost $1200 last year.
It can improve your overally health amazingly. Once, I’d been dranking around for weeks with a sort of low level flu-like feeling when one day I bit into a piece of popcorn and nearly went through the roof. The dentist found an abcess and gave me a root canal, along with a prescription for an antibiotic. Turns out the infected tooth was what was bringing me down and I felt 100% better in just a couple of days.
I’ve had some work done over the past 4 years, but nearly that much!
Luckily, I haven’t had to have any teeth replaced. I had some gum grafts done earlier this year and will have to have more done in January. That’ll be the end for now, although the oral surgeon suggested that I may need more in the future. After that surgery, I woill have spent about $5000.
