It's Been Two Months..

…since you were born.

A drop in the bucket for us humans…a mere pittance in the long life that I hope that you will live.

Already I can’t express the spectrum of emotions that I feel at work when I think about you. Today you had your 2 month check up…and your first shots

Veteran mommies and daddies are chuckling at the goofy sentimentality that I feel for something like immunization shots. But you cried…you screamed. Mommy was there and did her usual championship job of making everything better. But I wish I would have been there also.

You’re at that fun age now. Quite frankly, you were kind of boring as a newborn. Oh sure…you were cute…and new…and full of the possibilities that newborns have, but not a whole lot in the watching department.

Not now though…your big saucer eyes are drinking everything in. And you’ve discovered faces…you’ve discovered mommy and daddy faces. You’ve found your cooo…you’ve found your fist…lord knows you have the pooping timing down to a science (new diaper…must be time for a fresh one…). But most of all, you’ve found your grin and laughter…and that in turn has helped me find some of the laughter which I had lost.

Thanks honey.

I trust in a few years, you’ll look back at this post on your wrist PDA…and giggle at what a goof your dad was.

By then, who knows what possibilities you will be thinking about? I can’t wait to help discover them.

You’re a good girl Maeve.

Dad

She’s an absolute doll, and what a wonderful life she’ll have with so much love around her!

Mine are nearing the end of their teens and I must confess, looking at your little one makes me a wee bit jealous. I want another one.

Shelooks great! They grow a lot in the new few years. Try to take as many pictures as you can to help remember. I’ve loved watching LittleOne grow.

Yep, she’s a keeper, and believe me, I wouldn’t bother lying from this distance

You’re in for some good times.* Mine youngin’s are 4 and 2. I was getting ready for work in the afternoon and Lily demanded that she be held in my lap.

It was a no-brainer. There’ll come a time when she won’t want me to do it anymore, so I did.

At least until we heard 2-year-old Mark screaming that he had to come inside and go to the bathroom, and I put her down and we booted it for the door.

  • It ends the day she comes to you and says, “Daddy, I have a boyfriend. His name is Spike and he drives a motorcycle.”

Hey! That doesn’t look like a DOG at all! Are you trying to tell me you’re not a beagle, after all?

Cute kid, Dave. Ya done real good.

She’s beautiful.

She’s absolutely gorgeous - what beatiful eyes. I was wondering how everything was going - do keep us updated; I love to about hear the progress of a little one. Babies are amazing things aren’t they?

Wow! She’s CUTE!

Good luck man!

(Babies are a hot topic here just now, as a good friend’s wife is [sup]maybe at this very instant! They were going in this afternoon to see the doctor, and I haven’t seen them since, so who knows…[/sup] undergoing a Ceasarian in the university hospital… He’s American, and she’s Korean. This has gotten my attention for this reason: I’m bigger than he is (a lot!) and Astrogirl is smaller than his wife… no big deal until you consider that friend’s wife is having a Ceasarian because the baby’s head is TOO BIG too be born the normal way! Think about this for a second: if she could not go to a hospital and get a Ceasarian, certainly they baby would die… and she would (I’m guessing) probably die as well!

Reality gives me a big bitch-slap to the face!

I’m bigger than friend, AG is smaller than friend’s wife… putting 2 and 2 together, I’m guessing that AG and I may very well be in the SAME situation in a year or three… let’s hope that there is a hospital available at the time!!!)

Beagledave,

Just as an aside, Maeve is a beautiful name!! Do you know its origins BTW? If not, I could point you in the right direction!!

That is one content-looking baby! I wonder what she’s thinking, what she knows. She surely looks happy.
I’m glad you chose to immunize her. I know it’s hard to think of and she cried, but you’ve protected her and that’s your job, even if it hurt some. Now, there are things that can never touch her, because of your foresight and protection. Good job, Beagle-parents!

Children are a blessing, and enjoy them as much as possible… life goes by way too fast. My oldest is almost 14 and it seems like just last week he was learning to walk and two weeks ago was learning to talk. BTW we made audio tapes of all our kids (4) when they were about 2-3 years old. I listen to them once in a while and still brings tears to my eyes.

Congratulations

It’s my understanding that the name means "one who intoxicates (presumably with beauty…) She was the first century Queen of Connacht.

Thanks for all the nice comments all.

No man, no you don’t. I’ve been there for all of my daughter’s shots and it’s heartbreaking. Did you get to be there for the heel-stick blood taking at the hospital? If so, it’s more of the same. Your daughter’s laying there happy as can be, there’s a quick injection, and then…

There’s this almost magical delay as the baby’s still developing neural system transmits this latest information. Before you know it, the kid’s face is scrunching up in a new and terrifying expression. She’s looking at you, directly at you saying: YOU DID THIS TO ME! HOW COULD YOU? I WANT MY MOMMY!

Honestly she’s better in a few seconds, but the unspoken accusation just kills me.

Good luch with the cutie. You’re right, you are entering a great stage. They are starting to be interactive yet they stay where you put them. There’s a lot to be said for that. My 15-month old is setting new records for the whole house run.

She’s so adorable! I can’t wait to have another baby. They smell so good (except for that whole spit-up thing!) and they’re so much fun to watch. They get excited over the littlest things. My kids are 4 and 2 and they’re a lot of fun… they’re also a handful at times! Occasionally they’ll talk back at me and not mind me but that’s minor in my book. The best thing in the world is to have your kids give you a big hug and kiss and say, “I love you mommy.” Makes me feel warm and tingly all over!

Take lots of pictures because they change sooo much in the first year. I took a poloroid picture of my kids every month on their birth-day. It’s amazing to see how much they grow. I hate to think of the thousands of dollars we’ve spent on film and videotape. It’s fun to look back at the pictures and videos now and remember what they were like when they were younger and smaller.

Enjoy your daughter beagledave. It sounds like you are so far!
