It's finally summer around these parts. Time for my favorite exotic fruit!

Quenepas!

I’ve got a bag right now and me and the kids are sucking like crazy. These babies must take more calories to eat then they contain. My abuelita used to buy them by the pound and put them in a bowl in the livingroom. She would also buy tamarindos but I didn’t like them because there was always a worm lurking within one or two of them.

How 'bout you? What summer delicacy is your mouth watering for?

Hm. Never had those before. They sound good. Anybody know if they’re available in Chicago?

I really like melon, so I always have some honeydew and watermelon this time of year.

In a couple weeks guava season will be here. I can’t wait to head up to the mountains and have a hike/buffet. Nothing like a big fat juicy fresh off the tree guava. The strawberry guavas will be there too. Good eatin’

Vine ripened tomatoes, to be accompanied by gawd-honest Italian deli buffalo mozz.

Nice fresh peaches. Soft, heavy, juicy. Melt-in-your-mouth ripe, aromatic, and sweet with just a hint of tartness.

I love summer peaches.

They’re not all THAT exotic, but I anxiously await pluot season every year. Mmmmm… pluots!
