On the American Girl website, there’s a video game called Josefina’s Santa Fe Market Adventure. I started playing it, and now I’m hooked. And I can’t get past level three!
I’m so freaking embarrassed.
Anyone want to heap scorn on my head? Or talk about kiddie toys that you never mastered to your everlasting shame?
I just went to the website, and found out that they are slowly removing the dolls that were based on the books. They’re on Felicity now. My jaw dropped.
How’s that for embarrassing–not only am I not an American Girl, I’ve never been one. I’m male.
They’re getting rid of the historical dolls? SUCK. I wanted one terribly when I was a kid, back when the historical dolls were all they had, and I’ve been waiting for when my daughter was old enough to buy her one. Damn damn damn!
Rebecca is their newest historical character, so she’ll probably be around for awhile.
They tried to discontinue Felicity before, but changed their minds after a huge uproar from historical doll fans. There probably won’t be a second uproar though.
Are they really flat out discontinuing the historical line of dolls? Because that would be an utter disgrace. I mean, there could be so many more eras to cover.
The Pilgrims, 1950’s civil rights, the War of 1812 in the Northwest Territory, the Gold Rush and so on.
Honestly, they do seem to be pushing the empty-headed “Just-like-You!” and the Bitty Babies stuff. Blech.
They’re planning a 2004 character. I think her name’s Megan; I know her mother was killed in the 9/11 attacks. Personally, I hope they make her vegetarian. And mixed-race. Not that the two are related, mind you, but they’re both relevant to the decade.
I’d also like to see a 1984 character living somewhere in the corn belt, worrying about her farmer family’s bank loan. Years ago, I thought they were very brave for introducing Kit, because most people would like to forget the Depression. I was impressed with how they handled that; I think the farm-foreclosure crisis should be similarly documented. And other, happier things of the era, like MTV actually showing videos!
Okay, now this is just stupid. A “historical” character from the last presidential administration? History isn’t history until it’s been aged at least twenty years.
If history were wine, 2004 would still be grape juice.
Megan should be next year’s “Girl of the Year”, if they want to bring 9/11 into things.
I got through day 5 pretty easily. All I did was buy and sell the high priced items that were not on Dad’s list, ignoring the low cost goods and Dad’s list until I had enough money to buy everything Dad wanted at once.
Well. I may have jumped the gun a bit. The website does specifically mention that Felicity is not going to be around much longer, and, in my mind, it makes no sense to get rid of her if they are not going to be eventually getting rid of the rest.
But, then again, what would be the point of introducing the new girl? As long as they are making the books, there are going to be people who want the dolls, even if it’s a smaller supply, as they can make them part of the made-to-order variety.
