It's Gonna Snow? Oh No! Oh No! Oh No!- A Winter MMP

Shopping, such as it was (tomatoes, apples, milk and newspaper) is done and the Jersey Mike’s #3 is resting comfortably in my belly, so a little more browsing and then off to the gym so I don’t feel that I have to do everything too fast. But that reminds me, I want to stop at the library for an hour or so to workout my brain on the Mega Crossword, so might be rushing at the gym anyways. Whatever.

Well, at least no tsunamis…

JtC, happy Aldi-ing. Be careful driving.

doggio just checked out of curiousity and our local Aldi’s also open at 9am…but Kroger opens at 6am and Publix at 7am.

In a Road Warrior sense, I trust…

Stay warm, Dicey.

You are a wise person.

And need to gather my stuff together and venture forward into the wilds of suburbia. More later.

He does do a nice job, tho I don’t know about being best-looking. We will be one of the shiniest, tho - at least our teak will!!

I put Cetol on the name board and the hailing port board, then had to stop. I’d developed a killer headache from the fumes. I should have set up a fan blowing them away from where I was working. I’ll know next time. I also think the extreme warmth from the hellish fire didn’t help. So I’m upstairs away from the stink, and the symptoms are subsiding. And, no, Otis wasn’t helping.

doggio - do you know how deliveries are routed? Do they go to the farthest and work their way back, or start with the closest, or do a circle of sorts? Not that you know how Da Jungle of FedEx operate, but of late, all our deliveries have been coming after dark. Both of their warehouses are 25 or more miles away (dunno where Brown is based) and we’re in the north end of our county, so many homes/deliveries to the south. And many trucks, too, but I digress. Maybe the fumes are making me think about strange things…

I hear my recliner calling. I think I’ve earned a break.

It’s predicted to be 15°C here tomorrow… In Scotland, in December… It does mean lower heating bills, but that’s still unseasonably warm. It is supposed to be very wet and windy though.

In fact I should have brought my irk laptop home, as not only is there a weather warning for the wind, the lab I’m normally working in is closed 'cos they’re doing some sort of building work. I may be able to pop in to get my stuff and take it elsewhere, but not sure.

I need to clean the ratties out properly- they’re stinking. They weirdly completely freaked out about something unknown on Saturday so I didn’t want to scare them more by cleaning them out, but I think they also pee everywhere when they’re nervous…

Today is sunny with a high of -4°C, but that hasn’t been the norm and will change again. The current La Nina cycle suggested there would be more snow than usual in my area, and that turned out to be sorta true, but it came (and will continue) in the form of frequent light snowfalls rather than any heavy ones, with no significant accumulation. Highs for the rest of the week will hover just below and occasionally above freezing, with a high change of snow and/or rain most days. Not fun weather. A nice heavy snowfall bringing the spirit of Christmas would be more welcome!
:christmas_tree:

Herald, good for you and your crew for all the meals delivered!

To clarify, Mrs. Nott slipped, but did not fall on the ice. Before we got this house, she said she wanted a south-facing house. That way, the porch and driveway get warmed by the sun. That doesn’t help when the freezing rain happens after dark, though.

May it go well!

Super!

You can buy it in large tubs there for practically nothing. I sometimes buy one and some interesting cheese and share it with pilgrims at the hostels.

WTG! That was a kind way of showing appreciation.

There are actually several varieties of winter squash that are classified as pumpkin for commercial purposes. Growing up, we farmed Hubbard and banana squash for canned pumpkin.

OT finally got here. I had to ask the charge nurse specifically about it, but they came in, supervised exercise and got me up for five steps. Yay!

Got a bunch done at the museum today on our glorious closed Moanday. But not nearly enough…the coming week anna half is going to be a lot. Photo shoot of an exhibition (wait that sounds kinda dirty) next week that we are not at all ready for. I’ll have my shit done, I think, but I don’t know about the rest of the team.

We are home, only half an hour past kitty feeding time. They survived and tried to tell us that the cat sitter didn’t feed them.

It was a beautiful drive, like driving through a xmas card with the snow falling on the twinkling lights. Huntington is only five miles away from the Ohio border and there was four and five inch accumulations. There were four inches of snow on our mail box when we got home, so it probably snowed most of the day here as well.

We went to my new favorite Mexican place for an early dinner. He needed a margarita after his ordeal at the VA hospital. (they stuck needles in his feet to map the numb places :scream: )

The margaritas were decent which is all you can really expect for six bucks. The food was properly cooked and spiced by someone who knew what Mexican food should taste like and they offered half servings for those of us who can’t eat like we did when we were young and active.

Its a shame that its an hour and a half away.

Our cat sitter had a snow day today. (She’s in the 9th grade) Its not that deep, but a lot of kids live back in the hollers and those roads get plowed last if at all. I had asked her if she could come over at dinner time if we were late, but she must have been watching for us to leave because she showed up with book bag in hand while the car was warming up. She likes hanging out here, she can use our gaming laptop and high speed internet.

James might not want to go out tomorrow, he says he doesn’t do well when its under freezing so I agreed that we should reschedule because it should be warmer on Wednesday.

I used to get SO much accomplished before the unwashed public came in and messed things up again!

Keep it up! Your health is important, Nelson wants you home.

Did they hear a cat meow on TV?

I do hope they calm down soon, frightened critters aren’t fun for anyone.

Thanks, but we decided we didn’t want to drive through downtown Charleston in the snow just to pick up a six pack of cider, so I’m settling for hot chocolate with spiced rum and cream of cocoa. (Thanks Red!)

I hope she is feeling better tomorrow. Shopping isn’t much of an outing, but its good to get out in the winter.

sigh. (I wish I could remember how to put asterisks around a word.)

I got a credit card statement today. It was more than $5,500 more than I thought it should be. I thought I’d paid it off last month, to the tune of about $5,500. But the taxes on my sister’s house – for which I did reimburse myself – were $5,500. Apparently, I got confused. The funny thing is that I got that unclaimed property money from California, and I’d planned to pay off my credit cards with it. But most of it is still in my savings account. So I didn’t.

I have entirely too much going on in my life right now.

Howdy Y’all! We survived  Wally*World  and pigged out at the hog trough GC. Then it was back to da cave for nappage, day drinkin’ and assorted RDOS inactivities. Thus it has been in swampland today.

Herald those are some impressive numbers! Good on Y’all!

Knotty glad the Missus didn’t fall. Hope the salt helped the ice to melt.

red glad the therapist showed up. Hope you sleep better tonight.

JtC glad y’all had a good trip except for the needles in hubs foot. YIKES! One margarita at a minimum would have been needed for me.

BOTH feet! And he had two margaritas, I was driving. Which was a good thing because as it turns out, the numb spots aren’t really numb, they are just slow. I’d be driving along and all of a sudden he’d kick and OWE! because it felt like he’d just gotten stuck with a needle.

Stress does such strange things to one’s mind. How’s the job search going? Any interviews on the horizon?

Nothin’. :frowning:

I nuked some leftover meatloaf for dinner tonight. I made a meatloaf sandwich. The Spousal Unit just ate hers off the plate I warmed it on. I don’t know if she just didn’t want a sandwich, or if she doesn’t want to eat my Delightful Multi-Grain because it’s expensive.

Up from naptime, having an Old Fashioned, cheeseburger with mushrooms and onions, and fries. There’s a little accumulation, so there will be black ice on the way to work.

Dispatch doesn’t know. In theory, the drivers do the Next Day
Air, then follow the trace for the most efficient way. But they also have to rearrange things to drop off big bulk loads, so they can move in the car, make sure they do business drop offs during their receiving hours, and and have to do the access point pickups. Plus Air pickups have to be back by 5pm, and ground by 8pm.

Please drive very carefully, Spot would be out of sorts if you were late getting home.

Our UPS driver has been known to use our driveway to unload and reload his truck. So has our mail guy. We don’t care, they have a safe place off the road to do so. I’m fairly sure that’s how our packages are routed…”when will I need to rearrange?”

I’ve noticed a lack of package rearranging this year compared to last year. Are we great yet?

So, the interwebs said that the best way to clean a rug is to drag it outside and throw it upside down on the snow and then dance around on it. Supposedly this will allow the bits of frozen water to gently pull the cat fur out of the fibers and make my rug look brand new.

The interwebs lied. There’s marginally fewer cat hairs on the rug, but its wet and cold and will probably freeze on the porch overnight.

Thankfully the neighbors all know me and weren’t alarmed by watching me stomple around on a rug. That’s going to be just another thing they don’t ask me about.

The forest is beautiful, the snow covered trees are white against the dark of the underbrush and the sky. It looks like a movie backdrop, its too perfect to be real.

Here at last! I intended to post this morning, but today was mostly sucky with a 100% chance of rain, so I didn’t get a chance until now. I had an early dr.‘s appointment (actually a PA). I’,ve been dealing with what felt like a pulled shoulder muscle for about 5 months. (I was more concerned about my back.) I finally went to the ortho clinic today, where they did an X-ray and said it’s arthritis. I said it doesn’t feel like it’s the joint. They said, “Oh, referred pain.” They’re going to try a cortisone shot, but couldn’t do it today because arthritis has narrowed the gap so much, so it has to be ultrasound-guided. If that doesn’t work, they said the dreaded s—word, and NOT the one spelled out in punctuation marks.

It’s been raining cats and dogs here, and they’re fighting each other. As Taters and Lily said, flood watches are out, as are wind warnings. My umbrella blew inside-out . The bus was late, so even with a brolly I got wet. As I entered my apartment, Max’s person called and asked if I could take him right away, as her salon had an opening. She said he hadn’t eaten in 3 days (!) . He just wanted to cuddle, but when my phone rang, he slipped away, and I didn’t find out why until after he got picked up: He pooped in the bedroom. Now I ask you: how would a dog who hasn’t eaten in 3 days poop? Anyway, in looking for what smelled, I stepped in it, so I had to wash off my slippers AND clean the rug, which took an hour, PLUS swim out to the trash. Oh, and his person still owes me $40 from last week, when she left him here and promised to pay me last Friday. Hmph. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Oh, well, I’m inside, out of the storm, which is more than some people can say. I always feel bad for utility workers, ranchers, EMT’s, and others who have to be out in this weather, don’t you?

Son and DIL have a new dog, sort of. She isn’t getting along with their other two dogs as well as she had been, so they may take advantage of the 30 day return policy. I wonder if they get store credit? (It was actually a shelter.)

Red, hope you made it through the day OK.

So not so much a snowflake as fallout from the bomb…

I’m gobsmacked. VERY impressive!

DO stay out of the heat!

I’ve never understood why a song about getting dumped got to be a Christmas favorite.

Did you eat it with a runcible spoon?

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and showery. Weather app says “The next person to fucking call it “liquid sunshine” is getting fucking throat punched.” Bit extreme, wouldn’t you say?

That’s a lot of work for some very dedicated volunteers. Good for you!

That is indeed a possibility! He’s been emailed with his exam venue and has responded, we’re going to email him another reminder this morning and also email the main venue staff to remind them where this student should be going, and to not give him a copy of the test paper.

Knots I hope Mrs Knots is ok and not too shaken up by her experience.

Sorry to hear Mrs Cookie isn’t feeling good. Is it a bonus because you can whizz round the store without getting distracted?

Quite possibly a much cheaper option! The estate sale pics looked like a bibliophile’s paradise.

You certainly do, and that makes it harder to keep track of the little things. I have a list. Now my list has a list.

I am on campus today and feeling somewhat out of sorts, just because it’s the wrong day! The commute was uneventful, the bus was almost on time, the first train was late but that only meant I had less time to wait for the second train once I got to Big City station. I am in the office, I have a cup of tea, and I’m working through the little skip fires that are still smouldering.

Yesterday was busy as I did my usual Monday errands, logged out of work and fought the school run traffic to get to the hairdresser, got back home to feed the cats (who didn’t understand why I had to leave the house so close to their dinner time), made campus food for two days, and then made my own dinner.

I also emptied all the bins and the recycling, then hauled the biiiiig recycling bin to the kerb for this morning’s collection. It will have to stay out on the pavement until I get home tonight, then it will get hauled back to where it lives, unless it’s decided to go for a wander down the street in today’s forecast strong winds.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 35 Amurrkin out and partly clear whatever that means, with a predicted high of 53 and mostly cloudy. It’s laundry day! I am positively giddy. Sup will be grilled ham steak, succotash, wild rice (we prefer our rice to be unruly), and rolls. Ho-hum but it will be sustenance. Of course there will be the usual RDOS sloth.

BooFae maybe precious will turn up at an exam in a university far away. From what you have described about him that would be within the realm of possibilities.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Only NINETEEN FERRETS this morning!!! [Karenism] I wish to speak to who’s responsible. This is unsatisfactory!!! [/Karenism]

On the plus side, today my sweetie and I have reached our 42nd anniversary! I find that to be especially remarkable considering our whirlwind “courtship” and elopement. We shall celebrate by going to the local sushi place for supper. We used to go to a Japanese steak house every year, but that got old pretty fast. The food was good, but the cooks’ routine never varied and we’d have been just as happy having the finished dish brought to us. So for some years we stopped going. Anyway, sushi tonight! YUM!

Till then, I’ll be doing Cetol in the basement, but paying attention to the fumes. I’ll take breaks often to stick my head outside and inhale a few breaths. And I’ll have the fan blowing the air around in the hopes of dissipating the nasties.

Just looked at my Outlook calendar and was momentarily confused by the dermatologist appointment. They’d bumped me up earlier when they got a cancellation and I forgot to take it off the calendar. All that’s scheduled the rest of the week is giving Otis his flea and heartworm meds tomorrow. That will be easy - he’ll eat anything… except celery.

And so the day begins. Cold but with big ball of fire in sky for a change. The winds of yesterday are supposed to subside and temps might reach 40 Ferrets, maybe.

Happy Tuesday!

Awake for a bit before breakfast. Looking to what the day brings.
