It's Gonna Snow? Oh No! Oh No! Oh No!- A Winter MMP

Rain all day, turning into snow later. I used to Hate rain, but after falling on black ice in Feb, I realize ice is worse.
Inspection came checking for termites; I’m good. I use grocery bags as garbage and toss it in the outside dumpster every day.
Dentist tomorrow. It was for a crown ( started a root canal 5 years ago) but I will be putting that off and just getting 2 cavities filled.

The load sheets were wildly off today(say 340+ when there were maybe 290). So I was out by 0900. One funny thing. The package cars go by an alphanumeric id in the dispatch system(54C, 13C2, etc.), and the PAL labels and placards use a 4 letter code to identify them either by the area served(NHLS- North Hills), or the driver name(GALB- Galbraith). Except today on the 200 South there was DRMA next to LAMA, and HALA next toI filled up the feeder when I got home, so Spot is watching the vermin. I’m having oatmeal(cranberry orange), and toast. Then I shall sink into my rest slab. BACK.

boofae, I am a list person. I also write my list in the order I walk the aisles, because of my CDO.

Screaming Irish Chew-mes.

“Christ. Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the fucking Peace Corps.” - Bluto, Animal House

Very much so.

I took Sunflower in to get her cast removed. She now has a brace that is easier to deal with. The PA said that She should remove it a few times a day to exercise her thumb, and She can now shower without taping garbage bags to Her body…

First clear gloss coat is done. After a bit of chillage, I have several plexiglass panels to clean. Always something, eh?

I had to look that up. She had cut it up in squares as it was part of the cookie tray.

Interesting. Neither will my mother or my husband, so he’s in good company.

Definitely uff da! Hope you get at least one elevator working. How did so many elevators stop working at the same time?

Woo hoo!

Are they brown? NC has more snow than central Switzerland. Something’s wrong with this picture.

They don’t appreciate what they will be missing. :people_hugging:

That’s great news!

My big news is that I finally ordered a new iPad and keyboard. I’ve been using a very old laptop and an almost as old iPad, both of which are outdated (including the operating systems), so getting a new device is important for keeping stuff secure. I’ll be picking it up from the store on Saturday, I hope. I like my laptop, but Apple stopped making it and hubby doesn’t want to bother with Linux, or some other solution.

And we got rechargeable LED tealights, because we like candelight, but don’t like the soot. Hope they last a few years.

the elevators… there was a test of the emergency generator early yest. morning. why it was so early in the morning i don’t know. the building typically doesn’t allow work before 9 am. this happened before 8am.

when switching to the emergency generator 6 elevators went out. this has not happened before and after attempting to reset the elevators by maintaince, a rather frantic call went out to the elevator company.

the black boxes in 6 elevators shorted out during the test. they were able to get one elevator in each tower working for now. the black boxes have been zipped down to baltimore where they will hopefully be repaired quickly.

just the latest reason why we are replacing the elevators starting next year. my legs are feeling the effects of going down the many, many, many stairs yesterday.

disappointing rain is happening today.

Still building my own gallows. Our one-hour training meeting went to 2:45. Our receptionist has a new title, but I don’t remember what it is. Anyway, she tends to get flustered; and there’s a lot of stuff that I ‘just know’. I have a spreadsheet to keep track of things. Some of our members on the list have ‘Send to “X” only.’ Most to not. Today she asked how she would know where the data goes. I tried to tell her that, by default, it goes to X and Y. It only goes to X if it says it only goes to X. But she kept interrupting me, and I had to wait for her to stop talking. Or she would ask a question. I had an answer on my lips, but I couldn’t get it out because she kept talking and her manager chimed in with what she understood. Again, I’d have to wait for an opening to give my very simple answer. (She did say there are too many people talking, and it confuses her. Things got a little calmer after that.)

Over the years, I’ve tried to organise things. In ‘my’ folder in the company directory, I have three folders: Company X data, company Y data, company Z data, and non-data folder. There are several folders in the non-data folder, as well as uncategorised documents and spreadsheets. Useful stuff, with some duplicates that are saved elsewhere. I have a folder for processing notes, and there’s one for commercial relations. Those are the important ones that get used the most.

Our national database has been added to the data mail list, so they will receive the data the same time we do. They will clean the data (I hope well enough), make sure it’s in the right formats – often three different formats for each member, out of a hundred different formats (because each member has its own way of creating files) – load the data into the national database, and send the processed files back to the receptionist. Then the receptionist will upload the data to the company X and company Y websites. So the receptionist will need to keep track of what comes in using the spreadsheet. Then she’ll have to ensure that one, two, or three files are saved with the exact naming conventions into Companies X/Y/Z data folders (I’ve made sure to put the names for each dataset into the members’ processing notes folder – I told her it would be easier if she just got the notebook I have at my desk). Then she needs to upload the files, ‘print the receipts’ (take screenshots showing the files had been sent) and save them into a Word document into the correct subfolder in the non-data folder. Data’s really not her bag, which is why data functions are going to National. But she does have to upload it, and there are folders to help her do that. And yes, I put together a Data Operations Manual a few years ago with instructions. I don’t think she’s read it. But it’s in the notebook on my desk (and on the company drive).

Anyway, everything is step-by-step, and everything is nicely organised. But there’s a bit of juggling.

I have to admit that I’m liking this Amazon Dot. Great sound quality and easy to use compared to my old Sonos. I also have to admit that I’ve coveted one of these voice-activated gizmos for some time after initially sneering at them. I’ll likely never use all of the possible options, but I like the music feature.

Yay for more mobility!

Wait a minute. Are Amy, Sheldon, Leonard and Penny your neighbors? :d&r:

Sis and Nelson didn’t get to come today. When she got him harnessed and took him outside, she found a very low tire. She’s waiting for BIL to get home with the air compressor.

PT was here and I walked to the door of my room. They brought a bedside commode so’s i can at least poop in the pot. Yay!

When we bought FCD’s folks the original Alexa speaker - the tall one, so some years back - I thought it was silly. What would you use that for?

I’ll tell you - as a timer or alarm clock, as a reminder, as a source of music, as a quick reference (Alexa, who sings [insert song title here],) as a weather forecaster, as the answer to “What time is it?” and “What’s the date?” and “Tell me a joke.” Just FYI, the jokes aren’t all that funny, but the grands seem to like them. I have mine set up to remind me to take my meds every night at 7 and to check that the garage door is shut (after leaving it open overnight too many times.) Oh, and it’s also an intercom - I can use the drop-in function to talk to FCD when he’s out in the shop or to talk to the grands when they’re in the basement and I don’t want to yell down the stairs. And it turns our lights on and off.

Amazingly handy device. Who knew???

So, a shower and a terlit! Progress in very important areas! WOOHOO!!!

Sketties were good - it’s been a while since we’ve had any. Steamed broccoli on the side. Healthy and filling. Now it’s time to crochet some more. I’ll find me another 80s vintage Agatha Christie movie to entertain me as I crochet.

The dog takes things to chomp on, despite having a huge selection of sanctioned chew-on things. Just now I had to retrieve my nail clippers from her mouth. Mmmm, yummy stainless steel.

An emergency broadcast just burst through on the TV. Something like: Sumas – GO NOW. Flooding imminent. Evacuate now.

There was ‘historic’ flooding during and after a big storm there in 2021. Some people are still rebuilding.

(Sumas is in the upper-right of the map. We live over to the left at Cottonwood Beach.)

The TV weather person just told us that we’ll have wind chills as low as -20F this coming weekend. Sheesh. A good time to bake cookies and warm things up in the apartment.

Howdy Y’all! We procured and stowed provisions. Naturally this left us famished and worn out. Sammiches and nappage were sorely needed. It’s so hard bein’ us! The afternoon was pleasant enough (high 50s) to sit out on the back porch, so we sat out there whilst we warded off scurvy and malaria. The gin really does make the medicine go down smoothly. The shrimpies ‘n grits were very tasty. Go Me! Thus is the news from swampland.

Thankfully I only had to walk down and not up.

Sounds like you are moving along. Good progress.

It’s Wednesday, and Date Night is Thursday. But Wifey, RN will be on a plane to El Salvador tomorrow, so we went down the beach for dinner tonight. Taking pity on my soon-to-be-unemployed status, she paid for it. Only one drank each tonight, as we have to be at the airport at 07:00.

I napped. Dinner tonight is a martini and chicken with egg noodles and (Swiss/Gruyere) cheese sauce with peas and 'shrooms. Spot had dry, flavorless bits.

Grey. I choose dirt col;ored stuff for work.

Because if you pooped on the floor, Nelson would have to hit you on the nose with a newspaper.

Better thee than me. It’s 74 ferrets here.

Evening all. Exercised both body and mind this afternoon and then came home to Cheeburger and Pepsi Zero, so feeling pretty good..and got the garbage bin to the curb too, so bonus points for me! Have 8 You Tube videos queued up, how many I actually get to is still to be determined. Temperature is down to 41F but my electric and gas bills are lower than usual, so will make it to 2026 on budget there.

Interesting thing at the gym, I was riding one of the stationary bikes and had on my UH-60 Blackhawk T-shirt (got it at the Sikorsky plant many years ago) and the guy on the next bike started talking to me, friendly-like, saying he had worked for the US Army on Blackhawks so we discussed living here, retirement, etc., until he asked me out of the blue what Church I attended. Had to tell him none, I’m agnostic and not a church-goer, and suddenly he was done with his exercise and on his way…guess pedaling next to a heathen was bad mojo…

Also bought a couple Protein Bars at the gym (supposedly 20 grams of protein per bar). Chocolate Brownie and they were…edible, don’t know it they will make any difference or not but as an impulse buy, it’s better than potato chips…

And now…The Scroll.

Taters, happy decorating and save drive tomorrow.

Coppertone, hope the fillings go well.

Hippie, so glad Sunflower is doing well.

rocky, guess the elevators were victims of the law of unintentional consequences. At least your Cardio numbers will be looking good.

red, sorry you didn’t get to see Nelson but glad you have restroom facilities at had, so to speak. I remember many years ago when I got my Gall Bladder removed, I had a catheter in post-surgery which they took out that afternoon. By night I hadn’t been up to pee and they told me if I didn’t they’d have to put the catheter back in…needless to say, I made it to the bathroom and emptied my bladder…

Van Go, thanks for the reminder (not the chew toys, the nail clippers…), Need to pick one up on my Firday shopping trip.

Flyboy, looked at the Google map, is it runoff from the mountains, doesn’t look at first glance like there are any rivers of note there. You be careful to. Safe travels to Wifey, RN. She going out of Vancouver or Sea-Tac?

Cookie, stay warm. -20F is no-fooling-around cold.

And after 9pm so I guess this is my late-night final. Had an extra 100 calories available on the balance sheet so nibbling on carrots just to show I can occasionally do healthy things. Catch y’all on Thorsday.

It’s pretty low there. Here’s the Fraser Valley delta. I think in 2021, a dam broke in Canada. The whole delta is lowlands (which is why it’s so fertile). In any case, whether from the lake, the mountains, or just a whole lot of rain, the water’s going to flow down the valley. And Sumas and the Nooksack (sherk) river are right there.

Our house had/has a name: Hillcrest. No worries about flooding.

SEA via BLI. Thence to Houston (but I don’t know which airport).
