I can totally understand this conclusion, just can’t agree with it. I believe you and I approach cognitive function differently, though. I tend to wax philosophical whereas you’re more…practical.
Unfortunately, she didn’t. Her parents took her off life support and she has died.
It can’t be done. We can’t make the world a paradise, nor can we identify the people who will do such things beforehand; much less fix them.
The good guy with a gun story, latched onto by the NRA, falls apart when it turns out that he actually took his own life.
Confiscating 300 million guns in America - insanely hard though it would be - is a piece of **cake **compared to fixing the issues that make humans want to kill other humans.
What…? The vast majority of people know that it causes great harm, potentially lethal harm. Sure, they might not be able to explain the physics or physiology involved, but they know the bullets maim and kill.
Well, if the shooter didn’t have a gun he couldn’t have taken his own life, could he? Ego, we should give all potential shooters guns so they can self-terminate.

This shooting happened about 2 miles from where I work. I intentionally bought a house in another school district to avoid my son going to this school. Not because of a threat of a school shooting, but the school had other bad reputations at the time. Many of my co-worker’s children go to that school, and were friends with Jaelynn and Desmond. In fact, one of my co-workers is Desmond’s uncle. Here is the latest update from the local news source: Investigation shows school shooter killed himself - AUDIO - The BayNet As was said before, the shooter took his own life. The article gives a good map, showing the movements of both the shooter and DFC Gaskill. One weird fact is that the same bullet passed through Jaelynn’s head and struck and lodged in Desmond’s leg.
From the map, it appears that the shooter was attempting to exit the building before he was confronted by DFC Gaskill. It was probably at that point that he decided to take his own life. But I guess we will never know.
There is a gofundme set up for Jaelynn’s family and for Desmond. It is most likely against the rules to post links, so I won’t.
One other thing, another of my co-worker’s son works at the 911 dispatch in St. Mary’s county. He fielded one of the calls coming in from Great Mills High School.
Lastly, I wish everyone, including the news would follow my lead. Use Jaelynn and Desmond’s names throughout their writing, as well as DFC Gaskill. Do not refer to the shooter by name, because his name deserves to be forgotten. His act will be remembered, but his name should pass on into ignominy. Maybe that would encourage less copycats.
