I don’t remember ever seeing an Elf thread. I can’t be the only person who loves this movie. It got a lot of good reviews. Are people just embarassed to like a Will Ferrell movie? Is it too early for Christmas? I am sort of a Christmas fan. I had a sad time last December and this movie really cheered me up. I got the DVD yesterday and now I’m really enjoying it. Maybe it’s too early but I can’t stop watching it. Does anyone else love it?
Good grief, pokey! I’ve participated in hundreds of threads in which we talked at length about the Eldar, and their customs, and the Fall of the Noldor, and Tolkien’s whole premise of them as the “elder race”. How did you miss all…
Will Ferrell wasn’t in the LOTR movies.
Oh.
Never mind.
Semi-related hijack:
There’s a billboard near where I work for the new Alexander the Great movie staring Colin Ferrell. Every time I see it, I just see his last name up there, and for a second think, “Will Ferrell is playing Alexander the Great?!”
I just watched Elf a few days ago. I thought it was cute! I watched it once, then watched the “infinifilm” version of it.
“Francisco. That’s fun to say! Francisco…francisco…francisco…”
I watched this movie today…it wasn’t half as dumb as I thought it was going to be.
I saw Elf when it came out a year ago.
I thought it was very funny, as well as being a good Christmas movie. It tread VERY close to being too sappy, but held back just enough.
Pretty standard plot, but Will Ferrell’s straddling of innocence/annoyance is on par with Bill Murray in “What About Bob?”
If I don’t have my years mixed up, last year had “Elf”, “Bad Santa”, and “Love, Actually” all come out, and I thought all three were very good Christmas movies and comedies.
They’re looking even better when you consider this years crop, “Christmas with the Cranks” and “Polar Express”.
What Elf cuture?
Only Elf cuture I know involves Wolfriders, Preservers, Sun People & Go-Backs.
oh, oh, I thought of another one:
“You stink. You smell like beef and cheese. You don’t smell like Santa.”
I just saw Elf this past weekend, and loved it. I rented it with low expectations - usually I hate movies with SNL alum. However, I thought this was fun through and through, and managed to capture the feel of the old Rudolf special.
