On Jun 19th, 2000 I joined the Straight Dope Message Board. 25 years! I actually remember joining. I was working at a different site than my usual company site, to help this department get up and running. I really didn’t know what I was doing, but eventually my little group figured it out. I was really happy that the site was only 20 minutes from my house, instead of the 40 minute long commute I usually had. In the meantime, I had a lot of downtime and I had recently found this time-sucking message board. So I signed up! My original user name was Dolores Claiborne.
How many old-timers are still around? I know there are a few. Any 99ers?
Here’s a variant on this idea from about 6 months ago that smoked out a lot of the still active long-timers:
That thread established there are dozen or two 99ers still around.
I joined fall 2003, so my 22nd anniversary is coming up soon. That was an era when the board population was expanding rapidly, so small differences in join date made huge differences in your “seniority number”.
I’m glad you’re still around to make the place brighter.
You beat me by about a month and a half (Aug 1) - Does that say we’ve got stick-to-it personalities or, um, no lives?
You are one of an elite group of Dopers who I’ve met for reals!! When I think of you, I think of the giant armadillo!! (Unless I’ve confused you with someone else, in which case, )
This badge is granted when you’ve been a member for a year with at least one post in that year. Thank you for sticking around and contributing to our community. We couldn’t do it without you.
