The Cell only uses 7 cores because of low chip yields–basically, they’re counting on one of the SPUs to fail, but the system will be able to function as it was designed to work with 7.

chip yield has nothing to do with failure. That article is saying they can only get 10-20 percent of the output out of the chips unless they throw in lots of redundancy, in which case they can double that number. And very few developers actually use all 7 SPEs, most just rely on the main core and then a couple SPEs and let the GPU handle most of the other work, which is why multi-platform games often look better on the 360 (it has 1x512 of ram, rather than 2x256, and a stronger GPU)
That’s what I meant–it was a hasty reply; forgive me.
no worries, just confused me for a sec (it’s the last day before spring break and I just finished my last class. Kids ran me ragged this week)
Hey look, someone did something vaguely scientific with the Playstation Move. You may draw your own conclusions, but the short form is that there is a -little- lag.
Yeah, someone posted a very similar article earlier–both articles used the ‘enhanced reality’ demo, as opposed to the ones that didn’t depend on overlaying something over a video feed, such as the ping pong demo, which seemed super-responsive to me.
You’d be doing yourself a great disservice if you passed up Cave Story because of the way it looks.
Cave Story wouldn’t be/isn’t even on my radar as a game to possibly get.
I still need to get a new power cable for the Wii, I think.
It isn’t? It should be! It’s definitely one of the best 50 games ever made. Some might rank it even higher.
It doesn’t have current graphics and it has no multiplayer option. That makes it exactly unlike the kind of game LOUNE is interested in.
For the most part. There are some exceptions, but I like playing video games with/against other people.
One of the many reasons I’m pretty happy that my circle of friends (who mostly think like you do) also have refined the art of specatator/backseat gaming to a party game/art form, or I’d never get any single-player done.
Silent Hill in a dark house with surround sound is pretty fun. I refused to play Fatal Frame 2 any more after getting spooked out. Everyone else watching also refused to play.
Yeah. We’re grown ups.
We had the same thing happen with Silent Hill 2 on a stormy night. Eventually it was just me and one other guy, passing the controller back and forth, while everyone else cowered elsewhere in the house.
Is that the one where you spend time in an underground train station? Yeah, I locked the front door and closed the curtains.
i am never going back to nintendo, they don’t have rockstar games or modern warfare, no point
rockstar games are generally overrated (though I’ll admit i’m definitely excited for Red Dead Redemption, I thought GTA4 was boring and terrible) and MW2 was crap. Plus the leads at Infinity Ward have left/are leaving so I fear that series will go even farther downhill. Not that I disagree with your overall point, though, I’ve been greatly disappointed in my Wii and the amount of (quality) games for it
Call of Duty is being developed by Treyarch and another developer. Infinity Ward is of doing the next thing they want to do.
So Infinity Ward won’t be doing ANY COD games anymore? than it’ll definitely go to shit. Treyarch was ok, but they inevitably just used the work IW had done, polished it up a bit, and released a new game. IW did all the leg work, made the engines, etc.
