It's Nintendo! And they're winning me back!

That you dislike Wii, or like PS3/360 better, is opinion.

That those are the “cool” systems with the “core” games and Wii is the “girlie” system that only has games like Family Fun Time Bake Brownies Together and Super Happy Funtime Wii Menstrual Painting is marketing hype.

The Wii puts forth a worse product for online play than the PlayStation or the Xbox. That is also fact.

I like that definition. I dunno if that’s how people use it, but it’s a good one in my book.

No one gives a shit but you.

This is true. I’m a minority, but we’re growing. So, does that mean that what I stated wasn’t a fact?

Then again, if nobody gave a shit, Microsoft couldn’t justify charging $50 bucks a year for Xbox Live, could they?

I wish Wii handled online gaming better (particularly I wish you could talk to your opponents in Mario Kart), but I don’t wish it enough that it makes me prefer another system.

I think Nintendo played its hand well. Xbox and Sony needed reminding what booming sales are like, rather than hoping everyone will aspire to hardcore niche playing.

I don’t have time for buy it and try it when they would have me believe the only games worth it are online mega massive multi really hard to play slaughter fests. Not that there can’t be games like that, but I’m relieved that’s not driving the whole industry now.

Sure, it’s a fact, but what has it to do with the “core gamer” debate?

I just went online with Mario Kart to see if that aspect of it really sucks as bad as I remember it sucking. Yup. Seeing as you cannot communicate with your opponents, it’s exactly the same as playing against the computer, except there’s extra waiting time for people to choose tracks, etc. The one time I played with a real life friend, it was an enormous pain in the balls to get it set up, and then we actually called each other and talked on the phone while playing. I felt like such a fucking loser.

A tangent to a tangent to yet another tangent.

Now this is simply not true, and around 20 million XBL and about as many PSN subscribers will beg to differ. Now obviously that includes some caveats such as overlap of X360/ps3 owners, and PSN subscriptions include PSP-only or forum-only users, but PS Home boasts around 12 million users, and there are 20 million gold subscribers to XBL (people willing to PAY for online service) so obviously LOUNE’s opinion represents a very large chunk of gamers, definitely more than 32 million of us

LOUNE has stated repeatedly that all he’s interested in is online gaming. That puts him in an extreme minority among gamers.

By the way, Your numbers are ridiculously inflated as MS has never revealed the number of Gold vs Silver subscribers and PSN subscribers count Sony forum members. You don’t even need to own a PS3 to get one.

This argument has reached the plateau of ridiculousness. Is there anyone on one side of the debate or the other that’s going to convince anyone of anything at this point?

I think it’s pretty simple: people are different, they like different videogames and different systems fit that bill moreso for some than others.

“U!”

“No, U!”

Egads.

Yeah, much to my surprise the board has taken a detour into Gamefaqs territory. This whole core vs. hardcore vs. casual debate seems very pointless to me, but we’ve managed four pages on it. A gamer is a gamer is a gamer, why are we trying to split such arbitrary hairs?

That might be a bit too harsh. If a game has a multiplayer component, that’s what I play. Fallout 3, Tropico 3, Dragon Age, et cetera don’t have multiplayer components, and I’ve put in time playing all of them.

I know I’m in a minority, yet I have no problem filling a lobby with folks I know at virtually any time.

I stated that the Sony numbers include forum subscribers, however, there are 12 million people on HOME (as stated here http://kotaku.com/5492684/playstation-home-now-12-million-users-strong), which requires a PS3. And the 20 million psn number came from here http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/26/playstation-network-snags-20m-users-xbox-live-still-way-more-pr/

And MS has indeed revealed the number of XBL users, on Jan 6 of 2009 they revealed there are 17 million gold subscribers (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6202733.html). That number has since grown to 20 million by conservative estimates(http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/microsoft-touts-30-million-xbox-360s-sold-20-million-xbox-live/)

The fact remains, though that online multiplayer gaming is in itself a multi billion dollar industry

That article says nothing of Gold subscribers, and instead refers only to “active members.”

No it isn’t. It’s a fact that he dislikes the Wii, or likes the PS3/360 better. It’s his opinion that the Wii is worse than the PS3/360.

Thanks for the great contribution. I’m sure there were people climbing the walls waiting to see if that’s what I actually meant, which it was, and I’m pretty sure everyone knew.

That too, I’m an “active Live member” who doesn’t own an XBox (because I log my “Games For Windows Live” profile in on my buddy’s 360 for Rock Band every so often).
