It's Official. Mr. Ruby Will Be Deployed to Afghanistan

Orders have been cut, the crates are being packed, and the tears have begun.

As some of you know, my husband is a career Army Reservist (CW4) whose unit is preparing for deployment to Afghanistan at the end of February.

His orders are currently for 18 months but it could be as long as two years before he returns home. :frowning:

I’m so very proud of him and his accomplishments. He’s ready to serve his country and is honored to do so. We have one of the most wonderful marriages. He’s my best friend, my lover, my confidante, my partner.

But damn, it’s hell thinking of how life is going to be for as long as 2 years without him. :frowning: Fortunately, we’re expecting internet access to be fairly available; however, it’s going to be hard to have a relationship over email.

<sigh> If I get too whiny you’ll have to slap me “up 'side the head” but right now I’m feeling pretty sorry for myself.

May the time fly by quickly and safely for your husband, and may your Internet connection never fail! I’m sorry to hear that he’s got to go and I send along my thanks and gratitude for his honor in serving our country.

Jebus.

>hugs<

It’s really all I can think of at the moment. :frowning:

(((((Ruby))))))

Thoughts and wishes for a safe return of Mr. Ruby.

I’m sorry sweetie.

Hope the time flies by for both of you and that Mr. Ruby stays safe and near a computer often.

Thinking of you both.

Here’s hoping that Mr. Ruby comes home safely!

Do you not have the opportunity to go with him?

Ivylad left for six months two days after our daughter was born. And we didn’t have internet back then!!

Please thank your husband for keeping us safe. I know this will be a hard time for you, so don’t be a stranger. Keep busy and access the military resources at your disposal.

(((((((((((Ruby)))))))))))))

Ruby, maybe our hubbies will be in the same area if my hubby goes. He offered to go and as of yet it’s a no go. My daughters aunt is going as a cook.
They are with the Iowa national guard.
If you need an ear I’m here.
I will keep your family in my thoughts.

Thanks, all.

qts, no, civilians aren’t allowed to go with the soldiers. Afghanistan is a war zone so since the Army didn’t issue him a wife, he can’t take me with him.

Ivylass, we have a husband/wife team that will be deploying together leaving behind a 5-month old baby. I can’t imagine the courage it took both of them to make this decision. I really do understand how difficult it must have been for you to be a single parent of a 2-day old. You ave my undying respect.

Kricket, let me know if your husband gets deployed. Right now we believe Mr. Ruby will be stationed in Bagram; however, as you know, that could change in a heartbeat. Afghanistan is certainly safer than Iraq. However, the General announced to the Unit that because they’re Ordnance (ammunition for you non-military brats), they could be split up into detachments to work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, just anywhere.

My cousin just left for Bagdhad a couple days ago.

He’d been mowing lawns on an army base in Texas for 18 months and suddenly they ship him out.

A good friend of mine was at Bagram over a year ago.

Now’s he is in Bagdad.

Internet access should be pretty good there.

Anyway, I hope the time will fly by or that he will be able to come home early.

Bluesman is slated to go to Afghanistan in the next couple of months too, possibly Bagram. If he does go there, he and Mr. Ruby should get together.

That would be nifty…the Afghani branch of the SDMB.

My best wishes and thoughts for you and your husband. I hope he returns safely to your arms.

I am a DA Civilian and am proud of our military members (AD, Guard and Reservists) that are out there every day putting their lives on the line.

I forgot to mention:
Bluesman volunteered to go, so he’s not nearly as sad about it as you and Mr. Ruby. Plus, he probably won’t have to stay nearly as long (90-120 days).
