was a pretty female who didn’t die, and has selective amnesia, poor kid.
Do we have a Congressional medal we award to soldiers for being Good-Looking in the Line of Duty?
Bronze Star, actually.
Possibly nothing. The actions attributed to her may have really been performed by Sgt. Donald Walters but it seems the Army denies this and has declared the case closed. One account of the incident can be found here.
Silver? I thought she got the bronze star.
As I’ve said before, she got her star for the same reason Yossarian got his medal for bombing fish
he called the WAR questionable, he didn’t call any PERSON or group of persons questionable. See the difference?
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
Princhester - That’s perfect!
This is awesome, we don’t actually get on topic till it’s in the Pit. Guess rik really DOES have his forums mixed up.
Anyway, I liked the Jennifer Garner suggestion, since she and Jessica Lynch share the West Virginia connection. Go for the West Virginia trifecta and cast John Corbett in a role, NBC!
If the cast Jennifer Aniston, I’ll be watching.
Hoo-boy!
I think it’s amusing you are all suggesting actors that are at least ten years older than Lynch herself.
Well, ok Gorgon Heap, how about this: Resse Witherspoon stars in Legally Bombed, the story of one girl’s place in the Iraqi war.
I know they have a title already, but the tie-ins are too strong to ignore.
It works for Toby McGuire…
And Sean Connery.
Sorry, but it’s already been cast.
And Jessica Lynch is being played by a Canadian!!!
Treason!
I also note that one of the cast members is named “Crystle Lightning”, whose agent doubtlessly wakes up every morning, looks in the mirror, and says, “I believe in Crystle Lightning, 'cause I believe in me.”
I think they should have done it as hard-core porn, and they should have case Jenna Jameson as Jessica Lynch. Of course, I feel that way about all true-life adaptations, which is probably why my scripts never sell to those big Hollywood studios …
I think tracer deserves some sort of award for “most obscure reference to a fad '80s powdered drink mix.” Well done, tracer, well done.
I started reading this thread for the camp value, figuring I’d read some witty chatter of the type Dopers do so well. And I did, and thanks for the chuckles. But as I read further along, I got a sour taste in my mouth. The whole shlemazzle - the media hype, the insta-celebrity for Pfc. Lynch, the movie - is just disheartening. And not in a cynically-amusing manner, either.
The one decent thing that stands out in the whole mess is Pfc. Lynch herself. Between the glare of the spotlight, and the questions about her role and her medal and whatever she did or did not do, the poor kid - who is what, 19? 20? - has maintained her dignity and her pride. I like that she spoke first of her fellow soldiers, I like that she has refused to display herself for our voyeuristic hunger, I like the fact that she has kept her head. She has demonstrated exactly what the word “class” means, and I salute her for it. If Jessica Lynch is representative of Generation Y, then I think our future is in good hands.
Sorry to sound so sententious, but all this hype . . . yuk.
