It's Official - "Saving Jesssica Lynch"

And what about the OPer? He obviously wanted to discuss politics, since he was the one who brought politics into the subject. Where should he go?

RikWriter, read the forum descriptions. If you wish to question a moderating decision, do it in the Pit. And do not worry about other people’s posting patterns, you just worry that you are complying with the Registration Agreement yourself.

For the Straight Dope

I’d love to…but unfortunately, it seems the moderators can’t quite decide how to enforce those agreements. So let me get this straight: were I to post something commenting, say, on Bowling for Columbine, and launch a scathing critique of Michael Moore’s politics, condemning in that same post the whole Democratic Party, no one could reply with a counter-argument because it would be THEY who were inserting politics into the thread?
That seems to be what you’re saying. If you want to be logically consistent anyway.

Just a thought, this could be a great movie in the style of Rashomon. We could have a RikWriter’s version of the event, my version, and the head of NBC’s version of the event.

It could be freaking brilliant, I tell you…

What about the version of the events where Jessica Lynch is kidnapped by aliens?

That would be absolutely correct. Politics are saved for Great Debates and politics on fire are saved for the Pit. Just because someone doesn’t understand the rules it doesn’t mean that everyone else is allowed to ignore the rules. What you should’ve done was to open a GD or Pit thread and linked to this thread PLUS you should’ve posted a link to your new thread in this thread with a small note looking something like: Poster, you’re wanted in link. All clear?

It would be interesting, but I don’t have a version to show. I have no idea what happened to Jessica Lynch other than she was captured and then rescued.

Here. You guys go play in the Pit.

Woo hoo! The pit!

(ahem)

Jessica Lynch is a great big poopy head!

There.

And what kind of name is Jessica, really? Her parents should have spelt it Yasika, the proper way!

Weeeeeelllll then…

This kinda makes my other thread irrelevant, huh?

Naw, this thread is easily stupid enough for two pit threads.

Look I don’t know how having a towelhead hero is going to go down. I’m thinkin’ we replace that frickin’ foreigner with a young good looking US doctor, secretly working in Iraq to uncover WMD. No, wait, forget the WMD. Don’t mention the WMD. OK, let’s say he’s there to treat ill Iraqi children, tortured by Saddam and his sons. Yeah, that’s it. And then he realises Jessica’s plight and at great risk, gets word out to the US military. Afterwards, they fall in love.

Some simple questions for you, RikWriter.

1/ Do you believe that propaganda is a standard tactic of war involving untruths or at the least, enormous exaggeration or selectiveness, often designed to improve morale and “sell” the war with folks back home? And that romantic stories (heroism, rescue etc) are a common part of propaganda?

2/ If no to 1/ above, read some sort of basic history book, or primer on war before considering yourself qualified to comment on any serious discussion about war or history

3/ If yes to 1/ above, do you believe that the US government uses propaganda, in accordance with your answer to question 1/ above?

4/ If no to 3/ above, see point 2/ above

5/ If yes to 3/ above, why THE FUCK do you believe all the shit that the US government and its lackies spewed forth about how heroic the rescue of Jessica Lynch was, you dumbass credophile?

Hmmm. Well I wonder if it’s Flynt or Guccione that lined her up for the exclusive. Please, please, please let it be Flynt.

Well I have read this entire thread without participation so far.

As far as I can tell, the debacle and subsequent removal Pitwards revolves around whether use of the word “questionable” is a political statement or not.

I put it to you that, regardless of one’s support or otherwise for the war, it was questionable, in an entirely apolitical sense. a) A vast groundswell of world opinion questioned it, and b) post hoc there are serious questions outstanding about the evidence that was produced to justify it (see what’s happening in UK politics at the moment).

Therefore I rule that RikWriter is a thundering great dumbass, who can’t admit when he’s wrong.

The court rests.

The heroic Iraqi informer should be played by Tony Shalhoub.

I wonder how they’re gonna do the love scene?

Oh, C’mon! There HAS to be love scene!

Rik with a silent p?

And as for the c? I don’t think he’s ever earned one.

If he were a FFFuktar, however, he’d have more than enough to work with.

Hey! Can anyone tell me why the hell Jessica Lynch was awarded a SILVER STAR???

I mean, come on already…yeah, she got captured and then she…ummmm…well maybe she…uhhh…what was it that she did to deserve a medal for bravery?

Didn’t die, I guess.
