it's official, Sheryl Crow and I live on 2 different planets

Crow accepted her award for pop-rock female artist wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with the message “war is not the answer” in black sequins.

“I think war is based in greed and there are huge karmic retributions that will follow. I think war is never the answer to solving any problems. The best way to solve problems is to not have enemies.”

The best way to solve problems is to not have enemies. Seriously, what planet does she come from? There will always be enemies of the United States and other free capitalistic nations due to the lifestyle that we all live, including Sheryl Crow. Most of these enemies see kindness as a sign of weakness, and only respond to force.

These famous people need a swift kick in the ass back down to reality.

She can come and live on my planet any day of the week.

[sub]I’m going to invoke Godwin right outta the gate…[/sub]

“I think war is never the answer to solving any problems.”

Tell that to the former occupants of Bergen-Belsen.

Someone should go up to her and hit her in the face as hard as they can. When she gets up and tries to fight back, explain to her that war is never an answer. Then, hit her again. Repeat as long as necessary.

Note: This is satire. Please do not actually hit Crow or anyone else unless they hit you first.

I think someone already has. IIRC she’s missing her front two teeth due to being hit in the face with a beer bottle.

(I can’t remember where I heard that, so grain of salt…)

She sounds a little dippy, yeah. She may even be wrong.

But I refuse to treat the belief that violence, especially on the scale of warfare, is never justified, as celebrity nonsense. It’s a noble philosophy, it may be the nobles of philosophy. It may not be the right philosophy (although in the case of Iraq, I think it is), but it’s one that deserves to be respected and considered.

Shouldn’t this be in the pit?

Anynone who looks that good in her 40’s is alright by me. And aint her politics just too cute to get mad at??

Oh, so its brain damage?

No, hit Tom Servo. His arms don’t work.

Is there a GD here?

So Sheryl Crow is not a genius; her idealistic comments at the American Music Awards aren’t really a point of debate, and in fact aren’t really all that objectionable. She’s opposed to violence. That’s a legitimate philosophical position. THAT is worth a good, serious debate, but it’s not a reason to blast her.

Why are beliefs that have no bearing on the real world considered noble?

Marc

Perhaps someone should beat Jesus up to prove to him that violence is the answer.

They did. And mocked, and tortured, and crucified him while they were at it.

Actually, she didn’t say that she’s opposed to violence. She said that war is never the answer. And I don’t believe that’s worth a debate–in fact I don’t consider it a legitimate philosophical position. It was best stated (IMO) by Heinlein in Starship Troopers:

To be fair, the argument he’s attacking is that “violence never settles anything” which is not quite the same as what Crow said. (I won’t even get into Tom Servo. )

Then again, wasn’t Jesus supposed to, y’know, die for people’s sins? It’ve been kind of a setback for that plan had he not died.

Good question.

Is “let them eat cake” a noble sentiment to solve the worlds hunger?

I would argue that it’s more laughable than noble, just like Sheryl’s sentiments at the awards.

That sounds ridiculous. Bin Laden’s network is probably amongst the first to wage an unjust war against the US for reasons related to “lifestyle”. And even he has relatively more logical reasons such as power, US troops in Saudi Arabia etc.

WHere did I say he was killed for it. But, then again he was. Even then there were easier, and more humane ways to die than that.

Saen:

And as a result, his followers concluded he was wrong, eh?

I always got a chuckle out of the fact that they replaced the city of Carthage with that of Hiroshima in the movie version of the same scene. I don’t quite know why.
