It's officially official - Downton ends after next season.

I was sure it would happen when Dame Maggie declared she’d had her fill, but now it’s said and done.

So now it’s a question of: how many characters can they marry, retire or kill in the nine episodes remaining?

And if for god’s sake, they’ll get someone to marry the two remaining “girls”.

And what deux ex machina will be used to get Anna out of prison.

And if anyone will get poor old Lord G. another dog to love him unconditionally while the world carries on modernizing around him.

Me, I like the Carson/Mrs. Hughes love story and totally want to see them get married and live happily ever after running an old-fashioned guesthouse.

Considering she’s not in prison at the end of S5, that shouldn’t be too hard.

At least they are ignoring the first rule of TV programming - “If it gets ratings, too much is not enough”. I hope they can refrain from the MASH* finale syndrome and try too hard.

However, I find consolation in the fact that Mr. Slefridge kicks off Sunday night.

Shodan

Wasn’t that the end of Upstairs, Downstairs?
