This is the most eloquent response to a “douchbag” I’ve ever heard. ![]()
I heart George Takei. He’s just plain full of awesome.
Right now?
History suggests that this sort of idiocy is mandated by the Tennessee state constitution.
Well it’s not quite as insane as not being allowed to say the word gay as he’s claimed. It’s just that they can’t use the word in their curriculum for students until high school.
THAT sounds more like something we’d do in Tennessee.
It’s hard for me to picture such bigotry when Memphis seems so gay friendly. At least it does to me.
George kicks all kinds of ass. I adore him.
“Don’t listen to the douchebags of the world.” Wise words, my Takei friend.
That’s it. I am officially swooning for Mr. Takei!
Yeah, this piece of shite legislation isn’t one of our more shining moments.
But at least Mr. Takei has given us a classy, humorous response to it. I’m actually proud of the students who showed up to protest. It gives me hope for the future of Tennessee.

Wasn’t George Takei on an episode of Third Rock from the Sun (yeah, I watched it, shut up) and he pronounced his name Ta-KI (long i), not Ta-KAY?
Daniel Radcliffe also supports The Trevor Project, so there!
If he did it was part of the joke, a35362, I’ve never heard him pronounce it that way.
He seems to be a really good guy. His husband’s a lucky man.
Nope. I found an audio clip from 3rd rock and he says “I’m George Ta-KAY, dammit!”
The clip is here if you want to hear it for yourself:
If it’s any consolation, I (falsely, apparently) remembered him saying it as Ta-KI also.
It’s super to be Anderson Cooper.
Now what rhymes with “Colfer”?
In his autobiography, he notes that his name is often mispronounced that way, and that in Japanese the misprononciation means “Expensive”. I’ve remembered it that way ever since.
I love it! One man who pretty much rendered the state’s legislation as pointless.
That’s soooooooo Takei!
Screw the British Monarchy. I’d rather have Takei as my Queen
He’s going to be at the Phoenix Comicon this weekend. I suspect he’s already going to be mobbed with attention, but I’d still like to shake his hand for this.
That is awesome of him.
Now that I’ve read he’s donating all proceeds to charity, I can agree with you guys. Unfortunately, my first instinct was to be cynical and assume he was just capitalizing on it. Then again, I don’t follow the man’s career or life in the slightest. Though I hoped beyond hope that Sulu wasn’t that big an asshole.
He rocks!
Yes, that’s correct.
Not all Japanese Americans do retain the native pronunciation, though.
And then there’s this classic Takei rant about some stupid NBA player or something I dunno, don’t follow sports anyway
Takei is a class act no matter how you look at it…
