Dear Cecil,
I’ve been reading your column for … I don’t even know how long…Long. Love it. I, for some reason, felt impelled to comment on your elucidation regarding the practice of pricing items ending with .99, etc.
When I am shopping, I always round up to the next dollar, or even the next ten if a big ticket item, because I think in terms of my “out of pocket” expense, which, of course, includes tax. I have, on several occasions, had sales persons “correct” me when I said “okay, so that is 15 bucks…” “No, it is only $14.99” One guy was downright adamant. It amazes me how many sales people will argue with a customer.
Keep spreading the word.
