It's REALLY snowing out!

Yeah, Mackinaw Island is kind of in the tropics. Only 100" of snow per year.

I hate to admit it, but I’ve spent almost 20 years of my life a 3 hour drive away from Mackinaw Island, and I’ve never been there. I am going to fix that next summer.

My ex’s father’s family lived in Ghana for a while, around when Ghana got its first official tv station. A Canadian company (of which my ex’s grandfather was a member) helped them set it up, so when the Ghanians were trying to decide what to broadcast, they asked the Canadians, who shrugged and said, “We have the Weather Channel”.

Apparently, weather in Ghana is pretty predictable, so the weather station didn’t really work out: “it’s the rainy season, guys! There’ll be rain!”, and it confused all the station workers- why are Canadians so interested in weather?

Then Ghana sent a bunch of engineers and stuff up here for training.

The BoM radar is showing a small storm cell heading our way, but like most storm cells at this time of year it will be mostly thunder. It’ll drop about 3 minutes of rain while the kids are walking home from school and then it will be gone (and the sun will probably come out, just to make it nice and steamy). :frowning:

Checking in from Milwaukee::

No Snow.
though the temps are low enough.

:snerk:

:snicker:

Bwaahahahahahahaha!!!

Bugger all for snow here yet, it’s the end of freakin’ November, and it hasn’t even gotten to -20C yet! I’m all for this global warming stuff.

Mind you, I fear what February has in store…

I was really excited to get back to the U.P. and wake up to about 6" of snow. I was kinda ticked the ski hill isn’t open on weekdays 'til thanksgiving, though.

It sure is nice to see some decent snowfall again, compared to Duluth, though.

You think you’ve got extreme weather? It’s supposed to hit 62 here on Friday.

Two years ago we even got a couple days below forty degrees.

Oooooooooh.

No it’s not! I just looked outside!

What?

Hey, thanks. I haven’t seen a grasshopper in ages!

Where you at, St. Urho? Cuz Marquette Mountain has been open for a week now.

For all you wondering, it’s still snowing. I can’t see the driveway regardless of it being plowed twice yesterday.

According to my parents, this doesn’t count as a storm yet. They haven’t closed schools, and no roads have been closed (although my sister in law couldn’t get to Munising yesterday morning because the roads were so bad.)

I’m living in a winter wonderland!

A Troll checking in…

Just an inch or 2 here under the bridge. We are right along the Lake Michigan shore line though so lake effect should crank up any time now.

Last Thanksgiving we had about 11 inches.

I should mention that a troll is a term of endearment for us Michiganders living below the Mackinac Bridge. Not the type of troll that post insane comments to P**s people off.

You want to see snow, Opal? Wait 'til tomorrow. Only an inch, if that much, but it’s supposed to snow!

Easliy solved, just order one from your nearest barkeep.

Yeah, if we want to piss off trolls who live near the Bridge, we call 'em “fudgies.”

A small dusting of snow in Kalamazoo, but it looks like it’s sticking. I’m driving up north tomorrow to visit the parents, so it looks like I’m going to hit the weather that Athena is describing (they live 30 miles SE of Marquette or so).

Now this is really weird. Our house has a fairly steep metal roof. Once the snow gets to be deep enough, it becomes too heavy to stick to the roof. My office is upstairs, right under the roof.

Snow has been avalanching off the roof for the past hour or so. I hear a rumble, then a POOF as large sections of snow cascade down into the bushes. The last one made my dog jump about a foot in the air.

It’s weird. Really weird.

At least it slides off your roof. Ours is shallow enough that someone (usually my Dad since I’m a klutz) has to shovel it off. One year we’d gotten in a habit of dumping it in the front yard. The resulting pile of snow and ice got so high we couldn’t see out the living room window, which was about 5 feet off the ground, itself. I think we actually gave it a name. Can’t remember what, though.

I’m in Marquette. They’re open, but not on weekdays, yet. I have to wait until Thursday. It’s driving me nuts!

You’re welcome, slortar.

I’ll probably be at the hill this weekend sometime. I got the passes, might as well go!

You from Marquette, St. Urho? Do I know you?

I am from Marquette, I have no idea if I know you or not.

I know, that was kind of a joke… small town and all.
