Oh! I almost forgot the commas! My office has a plaque from Successories that reads “Your attitude, almost always determines your altitude in life.” Would somebody please tell me what the lone comma is doing there? Perhaps, if they paired it up with one after the word “always,” it would have made sense. But alone? Once again, where are the proofreaders? And, more important - they’ve been selling this product for several YEARS. Hasn’t anyone noticed that this needs to be fixed?
yes, they probably do.
condo’s is short for condominiums. the apostrophe in this case represents the omission of the minium.
Are you a member of the SLC?
I’ll buy that. Doesn’t excuse the whore-hoppers who place ads about all the fine video’s they have in their stores, though.
I’m SORRY damnit! Stop picking on me!
There’s a chain of restaurants in town (may be international, I have no idea) called “earls”. This drives me out of my tree - I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out who or what they could be referring to that makes this a legitimate usage. Never mind that it’s an un-capitalized proper name - I guess I can get past that
I don’t buy that, because I have never heard of the singular’s being written with an apostrophe (HAH! I know to use the possessive with a…um…is that a gerund or a participle?). “Hey, I’m going to buy a condo’ this weekend.” That’s a nice way to rationalize it, but it’s just improper usage.
So it doesn’t work. Condo’ looks more like ebonics for a large winged scavenger than a proper abbreviation: “Lookit, dat condo’ be fly!”
I got it, it’s a gerund, because “being” is the object of the preposition.
I have way too much time on my hands.
There is no d in privilege.
Two day cares in the Denver area:
“Little Learner’s.”
“Little One’s Learning Center.”
This was on a job selection criteria from a major national company.
Must converse with information technology
I love talking to computers. Damn things are too snobby to reply, though.
yes, that’s me. I have a couple of words that I can’t spell because I never remember the correct spelling - definitely heads the list. Sorry. :hangs head in shame:
It’s my prerogative not my perogative.
For affect v. effect, I remember AVEN. Affect/verb; Effect/Noun. Can’t think of a good device to remember principal v. principle. Have to look it up every time.
Oh, what the hell.
“Whose is this?” is not “Who’s is this?”
And for the last time…
It’s a lot, not alot. That’s right, two separate words.
I love on job descriptions and want ads: “Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.” Oddly enough, ALL of my writing is verbal…
You guys will love this website.
