Now that I’m old and crotchety I’m proud to call myself an “eccentric nut” – not particularly in the “hey you kids, get off my lawn” sense although I wouldn’t hesitate to do that, too, but more in the “I don’t give a shit what anybody thinks” sense. FWIW, I think you’re one of the most “normal” – in the sense of thoughtful and intelligent – posters on this board.

O.K., let me be sure what will happen on Thursday or Friday or whenever. When I want to go to the SDMB, I click as usual on https://www.straightdope.com/. This will bring me to the usual webpage with the words “HOME MESSAGE BOARDS ASK THE MASTER FAQ ARCHIVE” on top. Then I click on the words “MESSAGE BOARDS” and that will bring me to the Discourse version of the SDBM, right?
I just had a look at the Discourse phone app. It looks useless. Mostly 1-star reviews. I was hoping it would make the interface more like Tapatalk, since I surf mostly on my phone. Oh well, hopefully it won’t be an issue.

What’s the update on the timings of the switch? Is there a time when we can expect to not have access to the boards or will the switch be more seamless than that? What time tomorrow will we be on the new board?
I ask because I want to watch this thing’s metamorphosis before my very eyes.
Not saying “Discourse bad” or “Discourse good”. I just hope the powers that be keep good, uncorrupted backups of the vBulletin database in case Discourse doesn’t work out, so they at least have an easy migration path to another platform. Moving to Discourse is kind of a one-way, no-turning back decision. The easy migration scripts to move from vBulletin (and other PHP/MySQL-based message board scripts) to something else aren’t there for Discourse.
