I’m pretty sure we’re not going to stop making payments on that debt. The best we can do is to not vote for the people and policies that ran up that debt., lest they make the problem even worse going forward.
I don’t think it’s true. Democrats have lowered deficits; not every year they’ve been in power, and they don’t zero them out instantly.
Except that the data show very clearly that this is NOT true. It’s a Republican talking point that sounds truthy, but is absolutely false. Democrat administrations have consistently been correlated with lower federal budget deficits for at least 50 years.
I’m not going to bother to keep citing the evidence, only for @Sam_Stone to ignore it and come back with the same uncited bullshit talking points. The data are linked upthread.
Huh. And here I thought it was Trudeau who was personally responsible for all of the inflation in Alberta. Turns out it was Biden all along!
Or are the two of them scheming together?
In general yes. Clinton even had a balanced budget, and there were surpluses from 1998-2001.
I meant that either side tends to disappoint in this regard. But Democrats overall do a much better job. And that’s not an opinion, that’s by the numbers.
If you look at recent history, it’s hard to pass judgement on either side because Covid screwed everything up.
Also interesting that the largest deficits in US history included both the Trump and Obama administrations.
Pandemic benefits aren’t wages. The graph you posted doesn’t back up your claims, and in fact, is not at all a reason why people might feel bad about the economy now. I find it unlikely that legions of low-wage service workers look back to the shutdown of all of their jobs with any sort of nostalgia.
I’m no longer interested in refuting your claims with cites and your cites with explanations.
That was quite the feat on Biden’s part, since Trump was President during the lockdown stage of the pandemic.
FWIW, I wasn’t in favor of stimulus payments to people whose employment status wasn’t impacted by the pandemic, but most people suck and money for all was a very popular bipartisan position.
Check out Canada’s supply management system, and Poillievre’s recent vote on that.
Spending gobs of printed money did not make your milk price go up. This is a fantasy.
Please explain how Biden caused the price of milk to go up in Edmonton. I’ll take the answer off the air.
I can understand that viewpoint, but the fact was that means-testing the stimulus would take more time, and negotiation, and time, and then some more negotiation, probably a bit more time, and then 20% of the population is homeless before anything happens.
I must have missed where you clarified you were talking about the US and Canada, given the post you were responding to specifically named Trudeau and Biden. Could you point it out to me?
I just checked online, and it is $2.69 here in CA, and CA has fairly high prices. You are in Canada, no? What does The American economy have to do with prices in Canada, in Canadian dollars? I know the USA and Canadian economy are intertwined to an extent, but…
