It's the last week for panic shopping in the MMP!

So you could pretend you’re Jewish??

Yeah, I know it’s a stereotype and all that, but at this hour of the morning, it struck me as funny. It was one of those nights, so hush.

Indiana, right? I was at Purdue from autumn '76 till Dec '79, so I got blizzarded a couple of times. Bad enough that they actually closed the university a couple of times! And I seem to recall there was a stretch of a month or so when the temp didn’t get above 0°F! I also recall -80° wind chills. All that convinced me that I didn’t want to live in Indiana!

I think I may have made Chex mix once, but since you can buy it bagged, if I have a hankerin’, that’s what I get. Salty snacks aren’t really high on my list. Ice cream, on the other hand…

Poor FCD had to go back to the apartment last night - I haven’t gotten the details because I was half asleep last night when he left and I didn’t hear him come home around 1. Still waiting to hear when BIL will be discharged - he’s considered a fall risk so he’s all pissed off that he’s not allowed out of bed - even MIL got fed up with him yesterday. We should have left them all in Ocala…

Roxy goes to the doc today - her hearing is off. SIL will bring Tobias here and Daughter will take Roxy to the doc. Then I’ll pick her up after school and give both back. That’s as far as my brain will take me at the moment… I think I have a Nyquil hangover. Stoopit plague.

Happy Tuesday anyway!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 34 degrees, dark, and wet outside. No snow here, although points up north got socked with some. They are still threatening us with snowfall here, but we shall see. The region I live in is one of the hardest in the world for weather prediction, believe it or not. We have funny little microclimates here too.

I am not ready for Christmas; I still need to buy presents for my husband, son, daughter, and son-in-law. The grandkids are done. I’m just going to give my mother cash. She can spend it as she pleases or needs.

GG is a beautiful guy, JtC.

Bumba, pop in as you feel you can. I am sending hugs.

I will have to wander out into the great unwashed today to finish buying Christmas presents. Thursday, I have a haircut. Hmmm, maybe Wednesday. I need to check my calendar. I will buy groceries for the Christmas feast on whatever day the haircut is, and I will pick up the glorious roast on Friday. It’s 16 pounds so that it will take up a lot of room in the fridge, so I need to wait until then. I also need to wrap all the presents.

The SiL’s birthday celebration was nice, although my son could not attend since his Jeep started through all kinds of warnings and lights at him. I am waiting to hear if I need to pick him up for Christmas or if he can get his Jeep fixed.

The SiL also installed a new faucet in my kitchen. I had the old builder-grade Moen in there, with no real pot clearance, and it had a separate sprayer with a frayed hose cover. The new faucet was my early Christmas present, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I felt like he didn’t need to come to install it on his birthday, but he said it was that or Christmas, and he chose the birthday. It’s a Delta with the sprayer built in and has high clearance. Getting that old faucet out was a complete bear, but he managed to do it. That thing was rusted in place, and it took a good while to get it uninstalled. It was no surprise; the faucet had been there for 20 years.

Adam (my grandson) has fluid in his ears, and hearing loss has probably occurred. The kids were told they couldn’t get him to a pediatric otolaryngologist (ENT) until February. That’s not acceptable since not hearing correctly impedes his development. He’s already behind on speech because of this. So, they will take him to an adult ENT, who can at least get him scheduled for tube surgery. They are also keeping the appointment set up with the pediatric ENT. Access to healthcare is just freakin’ atrocious.

I was up way too early for a day off, but I guess I can use the extra time guilt free!

I hope everyone has a good day.

Yep! That’s the one!

FCD got a call from our Dr this morning - his dad’s bloodwork indicates that he might be bleeding internally. So he took off to get his dad to the ER. Meanwhile, I wrangle Tobias and wait.

Roxy doesn’t have an ear infection, but she does have something building up behind her eardrums. So another bit of fun for this week… they need to get her a decongestant. I suspect we’ll all still be sick for Christmas. Ho ho ho.

Morning all. Thanks for all the hugs and welcomes. You sure know how to make a gal feel special. I did indeed get McDonalds but the stoopit delivery did not bring the drinks (I wanted my orange!) Or my Mcflurry. (First world problems, I know) Last.night I was reading this book Laughing at My Nightmare - Shane Burcaw - Google Books
Which is one of the funniest things I’ve read in ages. Other than that not much to report. We will be suffering here in the Sunshine state with temps in the 30s and 40s this weekend. Don’t laugh! That’s cold for us! Not to mention the risk of falling iguanas. Oh, and my beloved Thundering Herd won their bowl game. Well about time for the salt mines. Stay warm!

@JaneDoe42 He sure is a pretty kitty. I am reminded what I used to say about my Leo. ‘He may be an ahole, but he’s my ahole.’

@nonacetone you may give all the rye chips to me.

@BeepKillBeep Well done you!

Morning, everyone. Welp, it’s the last day before Christmas Break…not the most excited. I’ve been dealing with the heartbreak still, plus last night I “broke up” with another friend, so I’m just…very very sad. It’s hard to get excited, honestly.

Hang in there. Want to talk? Send me a PM.

And you may have them. All. Happily!

I’m sorry to hear that. :frowning: Being sad under such circumstances is completely understandable.

JtC, your kitty is absolutely adorable. And I know what you mean about your parents remembering you. I refuse to delete a voicemail from my dad that he left two months before he passed away. He’d tried to leave me a birthday message, called on my sister’s birthday (that wasn’t unusual, he’s been doing that since we’ve been born) and called me a wrong version of my nickname. I don’t know what I’ll do when it inevitably gets deleted. He didn’t call me by my correct name, but he remembered who I was, and it’s the last time he did so I can’t make myself delete it.

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes and squishy hugs. We got another reprieve yesterday. Barring infections or accidents, we’re hoping to have a relatively un-clouded Christmas; at the very least, we can all breathe again.

Went for a waddle this morning. It was cold - around 25F - and far too early, but I’m glad we got out. We’re going again tomorrow since we’re expecting to be hit by the bomb cyclone Thursday. I hope all our California dopers are safe after the temblor.

The morning news just said a viewer reported a foot of snow in Birch Bay. We never get mentioned on the news. Anyway, here’s the scene outside the front window at 06:02 today. I think the candy canes are about 18 inches tall.

ETA: Weather dot com says it’s 15ºF here.

Morning all. Scattered rainshowers and 41F, so I probably need boo fae’s weather app to describe today’s mess. Will try to get to the gym a bit later for pedaling in place, but not much else on the agenda. Do want to check with my Pest Control company, I usually pay my entire coming year in December, but no billing yet. And I mailed a check to tru-Green 2 weeks ago and they haven’t acted on it. And the gas bill usually is in the system today and it isn’t showing. Yeah, I know, minor things and it’s the Holidays so things get backed up, but I like to have my accounts in order, especially at the end of the year, and this is making it difficult…

Ok, that’s enough anal-retentive ranting for a 2sDay.

JtC, GG going to do what GG going to do. Hope you can find something stronger for the tree. And the bow on the head story… (PS–we’ll want pictures of the ring once you get it back, of course)

flyboy, looks like Rudolph has a snootful of snow. Hope the Jeep is functioning.

FCM, the problems would be the same with FCD’s family if they were still in Florida, just that he would be gone longer and farther and you’d probably have several more long commutes; hang in there. Oh, and {{{ }}}

Taters, enjoy the new faucet. And good wishes to Adam and his parents.

Boo fae,

Oh, the Horror! The Horror!

pearl (and how did we get “pearl” from’ janis_and_cO’? ), bundle up some, it’ll be in the single digits in N. Ali-bama when I head out to brother’s on Firday.

ace, never been a mixed bowl type of guy, but have to admit your concoction sounds pretty good.

BeepBeep, congrats on the positive review!

Godbod, there’s an old saying, “friends come and friends go, but enemies accumulate” Long as you’re not making enemies you are doing just as well as anyone and better than many.

OK, need to get about things and maybe even leave the house. All y’all take care now.

Me too. I’ll have to put on my Sorels later and find out.

metalmouse from this album. Pearl (Janis Joplin album) - Wikipedia swampy named me. :relaxed:

The “I just got a new kitchen faucet for Christmas” Club beats HELL outta the recent “Got In Car Accident” Club.

… I prefer to be in the former and plan to continue gracefully declining any & all invitations to the latter.

I hope this can all be sorted out for the best, as soon as possible.

{ shoves Pearl outta the way } MINE!!

Not really; I wouldn’t dream of behaving in such a way ferrealz.

Really!

A very cold heave.

It’s just the angle I took the photo at.

He is handsome. Good thing he can rely on his looks.

I want some.

Yeah, still no snow here. Harrumph.

I shouldn’t complain; it will make shopping/erranding easier.

FCM, so sorry to read about the FiL.

Still haven’t heard from my son about his Jeep. I hope I hear soon. I know he has shopping to complete too, so I offered to take him since I have to finish my shopping up. It’s only Tuesday, maybe he’ll let me know today.

I’ve cleaned the kitchen, fed the corvids their daily tray of peanuts, and tidied here and there. I should get my hiney in the shower and hit the stores. Also, do you know how hard it is to find socks for a guy who wears a size 15 shoe? Size 13-15 are a little tight on him. It’s really hard and I messed up by not ordering early enough on line. Dang it.

Dang. Guess I gotta share. passes out rye chips

Good thing he is so da*n cute! Cats are why I didn’t put a tree up for more than a decade. Many Christmases passed treeless until now, when I have an altogether different passel of cats who so far have left my big achievement of a year, a hand me down 5 foot tree with clear lights, twinkling in the big living room window. Took four attempts but I got’r done and I’m enjoying both the tree and the accomplishment. I may just leave it up til spring-just move it out of window into a corner. My cats have left it alone much to my surprise, I think having no ornaments makes it too boring. Less work for me and it’s the lights I want anyway. My cats are now 4 years old, maybe GG will grow out of tree assault and battery like they did. :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:

Sounds pretty and festive. :christmas_tree::christmas_tree::christmas_tree: Glad you got some window lights so neighbors and passers by get a little hit (so to speak) of twinkly festive too. Glad you enjoyed snipping out the broken lights, it was by far the most fun I had with my old tree too, I felt so daring, like a kid playing hooky. Wild and crazy creaky old me, cutting wires-willy nilly. We both did good for ourselves this season combatting the bah humbug spirit-I say “well done” to you and I lift my tepid cup of coffee in “cheers!”. I know how hard it is to do so here’s a pat on the back too :raised_back_of_hand:t3::raised_back_of_hand:t3::raised_back_of_hand:t3:.

That’s my next challenge too, except it’s coffee. Got to get out, buy new windshield wiper blades since yesterday’s sleet showed what I have is no longer good, hit up the grocery store for a few blizzard supplies then haul my butt home and tackle digging out presents and getting them wrapped. Far away people are going to get New Years presents, timely Christmas presents is a lost cause. Should drop off her Christmas tip to my hair cutter-she’s been doing splendid by me for 20+ years and gives me a half-price family rate so I want her to know how much I value her.

True dat.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I agree, it’s a mess. My grandson developed an egg allergy, which can be life threatening to a one year old. They had to drive 60 miles one way to the next city for him to be seen at all and that was by an adult allergist-they are still waiting to get in to a pediatric allergist, it’ll be 8 months by the time he’s seen. It’s happening every where. It’s even worse when it’s a kid. Here’s hoping those tubes help and the surgery happens soon.

Finally got the little snot machine down for a nap. FCD got his dad to the hospital - that’s all I know for the moment.

Oh, crap, that cats are out of kibbles - time to refill their feeder…
