Well, having finally shaken my hangover from NYC Megadopefest, and being almost through the leftover lox, I’d say I’m ready to start thinking about ChiDope.
Hmmm, a major dopefest with great people where I can be the clueless visitor, rather than leading them around, and I don’t have to squeeze 40 people into my apartment for brunch. I think I’ll take it!
Wanna go to the Field Museum? They have DINOSAURS there! Woot!

After careful consideration, it appears that the weekend AFTER our original estimation would be mo betta, as there are college students getting out of class right about then.
So, how does Friday, May 9th through Monday, May 12 sound to you all?

Not that I was actually planning on going, but because my nuptials to JustPlainBryan are happening on May 3rd. And there were a few dopers who had to choose…

'Fraid I don’t see any way to be at ChiDope even if finals are over: As I’ve said in other 'Fest threads, I’m guessing I’d have to stay at a hotel, plus, I’d have to fly out. I can’t swing that much money for one weekend, not to mention the complicatedness of travel.
The week after would be a huge help. Not promising anything, but being optimistic as it’s only a couple hours drive from my home…
(I’d also probably need to split a hotel room…)

While you’re driving can you bring delphica with ya? She doesn’t fly.
That’s not gonna work so well. My finals start May 12.
Also, I’m gonna need couch/floor space (preferably) but I’ll cough up the cash for half a hotel room if there’s none available.
Amtrak just sent me a notice that tickets are buy one ticket, bring one of your loser friends for free. Purchase by early February. Good for travel through the summer.
Biggirl’s driving from New York to Chicago? Now, that’s just crazy.

OK, just as I was about to block some rooms the weekend changes.
Can I get a show of hands of those who would
a) Be considering attending the fest over the new weekend
and
b) Need a cheap room for this 'fest
and
c) Not mind being at an airport hotel (A quick train ride from downtown)
and
c) Will buy me at least one vodka drink for the leg work I’m about to get started on.
I can’t really name a rate til I have an idea of how many rooms we’re gonna need, so get those hands up in the air kids - or just send me an e-mail if you don’t want to “me too” on this thread.

Well, Jane, you know I typically stay there, so you can go ahead and count me in. And I’ll spot you a drink or two. I meant to ask you, though…I’m thinking about riding the BatCycle in, providing the weather is warm enough. At the risk of sounding distrusting, is the security in your parking garage such that I really shouldn’t worry about it being stashed there?
Pick a weekend and I’m there. Thus far, I don’t have anything on my calendar for those weekends.
And I think I’m going to hassle Dyno into going if his finals don’t interfere.

Put Verrain and I in for a tentative. We’ll just have to see if another job comes through for me between now and then before we can commit 100% But, Jane, we’d be willing to stay anywhere we could get decent rates. And the new weekend works for us as well.
Lord, I hope I can make this work. There are too many people I have a desperate need to see again, as well as too many that I want so badly to meet for the first time.

May 9-12 works for me, although I’m a bit disgruntled at the change from May 2-4. I think I’ll wait a month or so to see if there are any more date changes before I make any firm plans.
