It’s because they know they’re wrong and I keep rubbing their faces in it. It wounds their pride and frustrates them so they have to keep trying to find some way to try to prove I’m wrong about something. Failing that, as we’ve seen tonight, they’ll seek solace in greater numbers by breaking out of the thread and seeking support amongst the board at large.

Anyway, that meaningless milestone is all I can really expect from this thread. There’s certainly no edification in watching Starving Artist lie, then lie about his lies, then claim amusement and victory in lying about his lies.

Also, is it fair to blame (thank?) R.P. McMurphy for this thread and all of Starving Artist’s subsequent posts… or would the paper towel tube test have arisen on its own eventually in another thread? I see this as akin to the idea that Gutenberg invented the printing press, sure, but SOMEONE would have invented it soon anyway so he doesn’t deserve too much credit.
I’ve only read the last couple pages of this thread, but the fact that you were all vying for this post is hilarious.
Joe Paterno Fired, Others Not: Attorney General’s Office Has ‘Concern’

Pennsylvania’s attorney general has voiced “concern” over Penn State University’s firing of legendary football coach Joe Paterno and the treatment of other witnesses and officials involved in a child sexual abuse case.
Nils Hagen-Frederiksen, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office, noted that the two officials charged with perjury and failure to report the abuse are being defended by the university, while Paterno was fired.
“We have a cooperating witness [Paterno], an individual who testified, provided truthful testimony,” Hagen-Frederiksen told ABCNews.com, “but two others who were found by a grand jury to commit perjury whose legal expenses are being paid for university. One is on administrative leave. Very interesting development.”
“It’s certainly curious and [has] not been explained yet,” he said. “Speaking as a prosecuting agency, we have a cooperating witness who has not been charged, while two individuals accused of committing crimes continue to be affiliated.”

On a purely technical issue, if another thread gets merged with this one, will its posts get inserted in order of posting time, disrupting the existing sequence? Having the 5000th could be only a temporary laurel, if recent experience is any guide.
