Just for giggles, I checked NLP’s posting history. He has 93 posts since joining the SDMB. 91 of them are in this thread.
The other 2 are a thread he started himself called “Joe Paterno: Martyr or Scapegoat” and a reply in that thread.
I think there’s a pattern here, but I can’t put my finger on it…
Said Jerry Sandusky never.
I guarantee NLP will make more predictions.
Moderator: Please either delete my predictions or predict my deletions. Thanks.
1. Happy to say the personal guarantee delivered the goods as promised.
2. Not waging any personal guarantees this time around (gotta pick your spots), but based on what I’ve heard from pretty good sources, I’d assign something like 67 confidence points with the prediction that we’ll see at least one lawsuit (and possibly two) filed against the NCAA by the end of the week.
3. Now, for a bit of bad news: The Daily Collegian is reporting the perjury trials for Graham Spanier, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz aren’t scheduled to get underway until 2014 (courtesy of the Commonwealth of PA). Anyone care to speculate why?
4. Another point of interest from the article: You may have heard that regardless of the timing or findings of the perjury trials, the Penn State Board of Trustees is in the final stages of negotiation with approximately 28 self-declared victims of Jerry Sandusky. Apparently, they’re on the verge of issuing out actual settlement offers, which leaves a lot of people scratching their heads since the university’s culpability has yet to be determined.
5. Curiously, they’re trying to delay the civil case filed by Victim 6.
6. So, from the perspective of the Board of Trustees, where 32 members have fiduciary duties to perform while acting in the best interests of the university, why the rush to hand out 27 blank checks to Second Mile kids (with the perjury charges likely to be dismissed), but single out Victim 6 and seek a delay for that specific case?
- If anything good could come out of this mess, it would be pulling the blanket off child sexual abuse. It’s time for society to shine the bright lights of justice on this horrific crime that’s victimized 1 in 5 Americans since the beginning of time.
It’s time to get over the uncomfortable feeling that comes with the taboo of CSA, and it’s time for every parent in America to educate themselves against the invisible predator that has access to our children at night. I’m talking about the little-known, rarely-suspected “nice guy offender” who relies on YOU to provide the window of opportunity for them to sexually prey on your own children.
LEARN about the “nice guy offender” and talking about the nice guy offender with your children, family, friends and community at large. WE OWE IT TO THE KIDS.

World might be a better place if more people would stick to what they know.
If you’d be so kind as to provide some evidence for that assertion.
I too would like to see some evidence for this.
So? There’s a lot of money on the line - of course the NCAA ruling will get challenged if they can find a reason.
Not really. That’s more your department.
Because they want the whole thing to go away quickly, and in particular to stay out of the courtroom. Perhaps they think that delaying the Victim 6 trial will encourage him to settle too.
You know, I’ve heard so much in this thread about what a nice guy Joe Paterno was. Should I be concerned?

Why the skepticism? NLP successfully predicted Mrs. JoPa’s appearance on a talk show. That requires a deep insight into the case. Or a subscription to TV Guide. Whichever.
You’re right. And here was NLP’s “guarantee”
I don’t think Mrs. JoPa on a talk show counts as:
“two stories” (at least)
“will make national headlines”
Finally, I found it. Like the search for the Holy Grail or for Amelia Earhart’s plane, many said it couldn’t be done, and, to be honest, it’s a bit later than anticipated. But I finally found the item NoLittlePlans must have been referencing when he said:
“My personal guarantee to the good people of StraightDope.com:
We’ll have a lot more stuff to discuss by this time next week. Pertaining specifically to the subject of this thread. At least two stories will make national headlines between this upcoming Friday and Monday.”
Here it is: Sue Paterno comes clean … about cookies.
Is this one of those sports guarantees that have no real meaning?
You mean NLP hasn’t been giving 110%?
There’s no “when will it ever end?” in team.
I read this twice before I realized who it was that was advocating “stick[ing] to what they know”…
Seriously?
(Well, you’re never going to give 110% with that attitude)
Gaah! It’s not dead yet!
<sharpens wooden stake>
Just look at it as the gift that keeps on giving. Kinda like herpes, y’know?
NEVER FORGET
