It's time to officially Pit Joe Paterno and the Penn State football program.

Look, just Google “Penn State whiteout” okay. Yeah, wearing blue instead of white is not a big sacrifice, but then again neither is wearing a pink ribbon or a flag lapel pin.

That link gets better and better. Look what this wise attorney says:

“1. I don’t know who he is, and 2. If he is 10, he is too young to testify under oath AND unsworn testimony won’t cooberate the GA’s story.”

Did he get his law license from a gumball machine? 1. Children younger than ten testify all the time and 2. The actual age of the child was a guesstimate on McQueary’s part as he didn’t stop to take down the child’s personal info and 3. Case such as this take time to go to court which means the victim would have aged by another year or so easily.

By this quack’s theories if a crime is committed against a child under a certain age and the only witness to the event is the child then there wouldn’t be anything legally anyone could do about it. Now tell me… do you really believe that bullshit?

You know what? Any member of the “PSU community” taking any action other than loudly lamenting JP’s “unfair” ouster is a step forward.

How about you see above, and also see here: Deadspin | Penn State Students Get It Right With The "Blue Out"

and then take your smarmy dismissive attitude and… well, none of the typical things to suggest that you do with it seem appropriate, here. How about just suggesting that you think less myopically. Oh yeah, and quit being a douchebag - that one works.

Were you offended by my question or something?

And do you think “Penn State whiteout” is an obvious answer to anything? I just searched for the word, and your post is the only one to mention the word “whiteout” in the past two weeks.

What are you complaining about? I’m not being smarmy or dismissive. I was trying to answer Boyo Jim’s question: I said that having everybody wear blue when the blue is one of the PSU colors might not be a very clear protest. If everybody usually wears white, it’s clearer. And yes, it’s better than overturning vans in support of Paterno. I thought that went without saying.

Really? When I Google it, my screen fills up with images of Beaver Stadium as a sea of white.

You might want to talk to this guy.

Nobody wants to talk to Lee Corso.

Really, I would think ANY reference to any of this during the game by the broadcasters would be verboten, just on the principle that the potential for gaffes of extreme impropriety is very high, here.

There’s already a LOT of inappropriate stuff circulating out there. I have to admit, despite my heartbreak over what’s been going on, the one where someone amalgamated the Penn State logo with Pedobear made me laugh for a few seconds until the shame of doing so overwhelmed it.

Oh I’m there with you. I had to confront the cognitive dissonance of laughing till my stomach hurt, and then posting about it in CS, about Thursday’s unfortunately-timed episode of the new Beavis & Butt-Head where Beavis casually reminisces about the time that a school grief counselor (by implication, and unknown to an oblivious Beavis) drugged and sodomized him. Trust me, it was funnier in a ridiculous cartoon format, but I still felt guilty.

I didn’t say I googled it. I said I searched the SDMB to see if there was a previous reference to the term that I missed – and there wasn’t. Nevertheless, you responded to me as if your answer was so obvious that any child should be able to figure it out.

And regardless, your answer is not at all relevant to the question I asked.

BTW, thanks, Marly, for your more on-point attempt to answer.

Dear Hysterical, Irrational Maroons:

People like you are why we have courts, rules of evidence and jury deliberations.

Just because a crime is particularly horrendous, it does not mean that it’s okay for you to jump to conclusions; misinterpret statements; ignore, distort or dismiss evidence; mind-read and assign motives and intent out of pure speculation; and otherwise engage in the emotional, unthinking, irrational manner and mob mentality that you and most of the other posters on this subject are wallowing in.

That is all.

Thank you,

Oh I see. You wanted to keep the discussion within the confines of the sdmb, asking someone here with no particular knowledge of the circumstances or history to explain the phenomenon.

Sorry to suggest other means to educate yourself.

Boyo Jim, I don’t mean to speak for Hentor, but I think that what set him off about your original question in post #912 is that it had just been addressed in post #911.

Does the Lawyer Dude know about the '98 incident? He makes no mention of it. Maybe, maybe, you could make some of his arguments if the '02/McQ shower scene was the first time it happened. But it wasn’t, and Paterno surely knew about the '98 stuff, so he really should have made sure things were being properly addressed with the police.

Double post. Deleted.

And I’m sorry you’ve been such a prick about it.

Thank you as well, Bumbershoot. And I don’t want to put unintended meanings into your post, but it seems you agree that something “set off” Hentor. That’s what I was reacting to – plus the obscure nature of the reply.

Essentially, yes. I read the question in context as incredulous and pointed, rather than information-seeking. His posts since then seem to support my initial read on things.

That, and the overall tone of the discussion seemed to suggest that there was nothing the PSU community could do that wouldn’t be shat upon by piling on douchebags.
